GONZALEZ RESIDENTS NOVEMBER 1983

Jaime slowly and quietly opened the door to her home, shutting the door behind her. Jaime slipped off her shoes. She was expecting it to be quiet, but it wasn't quite the opposite of that, actually.

The Tv was on, Carlos sat on the couch glass of water in hand, he never drank on weekdays.

She walked past the living room. "Hold on firefly," her dad said. He sounded angry.

Jaime shuffled shyly into the living room standing in front of the bright TV, the ceiling light shining down almost like this was an interrogation. Which, from her perspective, it was.

"Jaime, cariño, it's almost 8pm. Where were you?" .

She felt shame; she was kind of avoiding her dad. Jaime couldn't tell him about eleven or their plan to find Will. "Out," Jaime said, giving him a one-word answer.

"Out? Jaime, your friend just went missing a few days ago. You can't be staying out this late," Carlos said. He thought his words were harsh, but necessary. He just wanted his daughter safe.

Jaime nodded "I know,"

Carlos sighed. "Can you just tell me where you were?" He asked again

"Library..." She lied

He dragged his calloused hand down his face. "Ok well next time be home earlier," He said. Carlos watched his little girl walk down the hall "Hey! Jaime!" He called out to her. "Te amo" He said.

"Te amo," Jaime said giving a small smile before going to bed.

Jaime woke up. She felt terrible, probably from waking up at random intervals in the night.

She changed into some new clothes, a skirt and long sleeve turtleneck shirt with some tights underneath. With that, she grabbed her school bag off the floor, walking out to the kitchen and living room. Her dad must have left early because he's nowhere to be seen.

So Jaime grabbed her bike and rode to Mike's home. She threw down her bike and walked inside to meet the three boys, along with El, in the basement.

"We just tell our parents we have an AV Club after school. That'll give us at least a few hours for Operation Mirkwood." Mike explains to the three of them. They all agreed to this plan but wanted to go over it one more time.

"You seriously think that the weirdo knows where Will is?" Lucas asks, looking over at her playing with the Radio.

"Just trust me on this, okay? Did you get the supplies?"
