WHEELER RESIDENTS NOVEMBER 1983
The five of them sat around in Mike's basement thinking about their friend Will. El lay on the couch as she regained energy, and Jaime sat on the floor next to her head. "What was Will saying? Like home... Like home, but dark?" He got up from his spot on the couch, passing around.
"And Empty," Lucas paced around, repeating Will's words
Dustin sat on the stairs. "Empty and cold. Wait, did he say cold?" Dustin asks, not remembering what exactly he said.
The tall boy just sighs. "I don't know. The stupid radio kept going in and out," Lucas complains
"It's like riddles in the dark." Dustin sighs
"Like home. Like his house?" Mike says, turning to the boys.
Lucas' eyes widen at this "Or Maybe like Hawkins?" he suggests
"Well, El brought us to his house. Remember," Jaime says
Eleven lay on the couch "Upside down," El mutters because of her low energy
"What did she say?" Lucas asks because of her quiet voice.
"Upside down," Mike mutters, realising something, walking over to the table.
"What?"
"Did you figure something out?" Jaime asks, watching Mike sit down at the table with the flipped board.
"When El showed us where Will was, she flipped the board over, remember?" Mike says flipping the board back over on the right side
"Upside down," Jaime says as she quickly got up from her spot on the floor next to El to the table with the boys as Mike explains.
"Dark. Empty," Mike declares.
"Do you understand what he's talking about?" Lucas says to Dustin, which earns a no from Dustin.
"I think I get it," Jaime mutters as they all look at her. "Well, remember when we went out to find Will, El led us to his house right," Jaime explains, catching on to what Mike was saying.
"Yeah and he wasn't there," Lucas says
"But what if he was there? What if we just couldn't see him? What if he was on the other side?" Mike explains his logic.
The two boys still didn't get it. Mike flips the board over to the right side "Ok, What if this is Hawkins and..." He flips the board back to the other side "This is where Will is, The Upside down," Mike says, it seems like Dustin and Lucas were finally getting it.
