WHEELER RESIDENTS NOVEMBER 1983
Mike and El were in the basement bathroom. He volunteered to help her clean up. The white door was still open just a bit.
Jaime waited in the rest of the basement with Dustin. "Hey Dustin, do you think Mike likes El?" Jaime asked. Dustin just shrugged. "Ok, um, well, I wanted to say thank you for standing up for me and honestly being the most levelheaded."
He nodded. "Well, someone has too, you know, thanks though, honestly I really like the idea of you being in our party. I definitely understand why Will thought you were so cool," He said. They smiled at each other.
"Co- re-" The radio starts playing up "-ode -ed" someone was calling out "Code Red!" Lucas's voice finally came through. Dustin and Jaime gasped.
The door slams open. It was Dustin who interrupted them. El and Mike jump away from each other. "Guys! It's Lucas, I think he's in trouble," Dustin says they run out of the bathroom and pick up the Supercomm..
The two scurry out of the small bathroom. "What's up with Lucas?" Mike says as if nothing happened. The four kids stood around the table and listened to Dustin as he explained.
"Do you remember how he said he was looking for the gate?" Dustin says "What if he found it?" he says as the radio picks up what sounds like Lucas, but he is incoherent. They couldn't figure out what he was saying.
Mike tried to listen, but the signal wasn't great. "What's he saying?" Mike asks, looking at the curly-haired boy.
"I don't know, he's way out of range," Dustin responds. Mike picks up the radio and speaks into it.
"Lucas, if you can hear us, slow down. We can't understand you." Mike says into the walkie-talkie.
"Yes- I- Do- They- Elev- The Mad hen- Their coming!" Lucas comes through only slightly and they still couldn't understand all of what he was saying.
"'Mad hen', does that mean anything to you? Like a code name or something. " Dustin looks at Jaime and Mike. The short-haired girl just shook her head. Mike just listens in closely again.
"The Bad men are coming!" Lucas says this time Mike heard it properly.
"Bad men, Bad Men! Stay here," He says to Eleven as the three of them run up the stairs onto the ground floor of Mike Wheeler's house. They run to the closest window to look outside. They see a repair van outside.
"What's that guy doing?"
Jaime's face scrunched in confusion and looked outside. "That company, 'Hawkins power and lights', that's not even a real electric company? My dad works at the only electric company in the whole town?"
