HAWKINS LAB NOVEMBER 1984

The doctors rushed Will in on a stretcher. He screams and cries in agony. A ventilator over his mouth to keep his breathing steady. Joyce stayed close to him, crying, trying to tell him he'll be better soon. Mike, Jaime, and Bob ran as fast as they could behind him. They lifted him off the stretcher and onto a bed.

It was hard to watch. Jaime couldn't bear the sight of it, so she stayed back, looking away.

Joyce tries to comfort her son, but nothing works. The doctors do their best trying to find what's wrong with him, but he won't stop moving and screaming. The nurse stabs his arm with a needle and he falls asleep.
_________

Jaime sat in a chair with a blanket covering her, her eyes puffy and red as she watched her friend lay in the bed unconscious. Bob and Joyce were talking in the background, but she didn't pay much attention to it.

Jaime glanced at Mike as he was napping. She couldn't think about Mike without thinking something bad will happen to him. Especially when her friend Will, who has been going through shit for the past year, was lying unconscious right in front of her.

Jaime sat up straight as she watched as Will stirred in his sleep, slowly opening his eyes.

"Mum," he breathed out. It sounded like he could barely talk. Joyce and Bob stopped their discussion to go see how Will was going. Bob ran out into the hall, calling for a doctor.

"Sweetie, how are you feeling? You ok?" Joyce sweetly called out to her child. She rubbed his shoulder. Jaime shook Mike a little, awakening from his slumber to see that Will was up.

"Okay, they're on their way," Bob said, running to Joyce's side. "Hey," He called out to Will. The boy stared back in confusion.

"Who is that?" He said. This made everyone look around, wondering if there was someone else in the room.

"What?" Joyce says quietly.

"It's me, big guy. It's Bob," He says cheerfully, as he tries to reach for Will. Will instantly moved his hand away from Bob, looking scared.

"Are you a..." Will looks away "doctor?" His friends and family looked at him sadly and worried.

"No. No, it's just me. Just... just Bob," he says sadly. Mike and Jaime looked at his friend, knowing something wasn't right about Will.
_________

The doctors came to check on Will. Jim joined them. Joyce described the whole situation with Bob, and the doctor did some checkups. They took his blood pressure and checked his ears weren't being blocked by anything small check-up stuff. Doctor Owens shined a light into his eyes. "Do you know your name?" Doctor Owens asked.
