MUNSON RESIDENTS MARCH 1986

WARNING: THIS CHAPTER DOES MENTION SA GUILT THAT MAY COME WITH THAT AS WELL AS ABUSE

Night had fallen, casting long shadows over the landscape. The van was parked discreetly out of sight but close enough to Eddie's trailer for a quick approach. The group huddled together as Nancy stood before them, her expression stern and focused.

"Okay, I wanna run through it one more time," Nancy said, her voice firm. "Phase one."

"We meet Erica at the playground," Robin began, keeping her voice low. "She'll signal Max, Lucas, and Jaime when we're ready."

"Phase two," Nancy prompted, nodding.

"Max and Jaime bait Vecna," Steve continued, his tone laced with unease. "He'll go after them, which'll put him in his trance."

"Phase three?"

"Mike, Eddie, and I draw the bats away," Dustin said confidently.

Nancy's gaze sharpened. "Four."

"We head into Vecna's hopefully newly bat-free lair, and... flambe," Robin recited, raising a molotov with a small, determined grin.

Nancy nodded, her eyes scanning the group, making sure they were all on the same page. "Nobody moves on to the next phase until we've all copied. Nobody deviates from the plan no matter what. Got it?"

Everyone nodded in agreement, the weight of the mission hanging heavy in the air. They moved swiftly, slipping out of the van and sneaking into Eddie's trailer.

The rope from their last venture was still dangling from the ceiling. Steve took the lead, carefully manoeuvring through the gate and landing on the other side without a hitch.

He positioned the mattress to cushion the others as they climbed through one by one, stepping into the eerie, upside-down version of Eddie's trailer. The group gathered, and Steve cast a quick look back toward Dustin, Eddie, and Mike, the trio tasked with drawing the bats away.

"Hey, guys, listen up," Steve said, his voice edged with urgency. "If things here start to go south, I mean at all, you abort. Okay? Draw the attention of the bats. Keep 'em busy for a minute or two. We'll take care of Vecna. Don't try to be cute or a hero or something, okay? You guys are just—"

"Decoys," Dustin cut in, managing a smile despite the tension. "Don't worry. You can be the hero, Steve."

"Yeah, as much as I wanna stop this thing, I'd hate to be doing what you guys are doing," Mike added with a nervous chuckle.
