Are you kidding me?

Odin

I kept myself busy refereeing the others until it was time to meet Sofie. When don't I referee them?

Thank God Roman and Ryden left to visit their Grammy. Oliver called Jordin into the church. And Kyler had plans.

I needed a break from the yahoos.

After checking the time, I left to meet Sofie. I had never been to the Oakridge Center for Children and wasn't prepared to look familiar.

I walked into the center as Kyler spotted me.

"What are you doing here?" Kyler asked me.

"I'm meeting someone. What are you doing here?"

"I've been working here to earn credits toward my degree."

"Wait. This is the center you work at?"

"Yeah. You sound surprised."

"I am."

"So, who are you meeting?"

"Sofie."

"Wait. What?"

"Sofie volunteers here."

"I know who Sofie is, dingleberry. How do you know Sofie?"

"I met her at the party."

Kyler placed his hand on his face and raked it down. "Odin, she's seventeen."

"Yeah, I know."

"And in high school."

"I know that, too."

"Wait. Is she the reason you left the luncheon early?"

"Yeah."

Kyler's brows raised.

I tilted my head. "So, what do you know about Sofie?"

"Seriously?" Kyler gave me an unamused look.

I shrugged.

"Not much. Sofie volunteers because she enjoys kids."

"Does she say anything about... me?"

"I didn't even know Sofie met someone."

"Good to know." I nodded.

Kyler blew air past his lips and shook his head. "Don't get me killed when her parents find out."

"I doubt her parents care."

"That's what everyone says."

I shrugged and walked away to find Sofie.

Sofie

I took a group of kids outside to play on the playscape with Mercedes accompanying us. The kids ran and climbed on the playscape.

"Thanks, Sofie. The kids were getting restless," Mercedes said.

"The kids just needed to burn off energy."

"No kidding."

I giggled. "How is everything with you?"

"It's okay. I start work at a bar this weekend."

My brows raised. "Are you sure that's a good idea?"

"I need the extra money. I love being a counselor, but I have bills to pay. It doesn't help when your dirty, rotten ex cheats on you."

I pulled my lips inward.

Mercedes worked as a counselor and was dating this guy who seemed perfect until he turned into a toad. She caught him with another girl and ended things. I don't blame her. Who wants Prince Charming disguised as a toad?
