Odin
Dad and Elias gave us a break while the electricians ran electrical through the house. We couldn't do any work until it the finished. It would take a few days since the house was massive.
I figured this was an excellent time to take a trip with Sophie to the cabin. Ricardo accompanied us so he could update Sofie's dad with his version of the truth. If you consider lying an understanding of the truth, then sure.
The drive took a couple of hours before we arrived at the cabin. I popped a trunk and lifted a cooler from it. Sofie and Ricardo grabbed our bags and carried them into the cabin.
I set the cooler on the counter and unpacked it, tossing the items into the fridge.
"Where can we set our bags?" Sofie asked me.
"I'll show you." I closed the fridge door, led them upstairs, and showed them to the bedrooms.
Afterward, we came downstairs, walked out onto the back deck, and sat in plastic chairs.
"This place is pretty sweet," Ricardo mentioned.
"My Grandpa Cayson Gray built it years ago. His son passed it down through the family, so we had a retreat from the daily grind," I said.
"You're lucky. My family kicked me out when I told them I was gay."
"How old were you when your family kicked you out?"
"Fifteen. I wanted to find a way to tell my parents. When I did, they told me to get out."
"Where did you go?"
"The streets. A guy found me and helped me. He set me up with a nice family, who ensured I graduated and got a job."
"Is that how you ended up working for Sofie's dad?"
"Yep." Ricardo nodded. "My foster dad mentioned some suit was looking for a driver. The pay was decent, and I met Sofie."
I glanced at Sofie, grinning, and chuckled. "Sofie seems to know many people."
"This girl will befriend anyone."
"Not everyone." Sofie shrugged.
"Sofie, if you meet a stray, you take care of them."
"It's not my fault that people like me."
"It's an admirable quality."
"I agree," I said.
Ricardo and Sofie smiled.
"What about you, Odin?" Ricardo asked.
"I graduated high school, studied construction, and earned my contractor's license. I've worked with my dad since I was a teen."
"Do you enjoy what you do?"
"I enjoy building houses. I would rather work with my hands than sit in an office all day."
"How about we eat before we dive into our personal lives?" Sofie asked.
I arched my brow as Sofie grinned. I shook my head and chuckled.
*******
SofieRicardo's phone rang while I helped Odin with dinner. I figured it was my dad wanting an update about my imprisonment. I was right.
My father thinks I'm sitting in my sterile home, staring at the walls. Yeah, okay.
Ricardo told my dad what he wanted to hear and ended the call before coming inside.
"What did my sperm donor want?" I asked.
Odin snickered.
"Your father wanted to know if you're behaving in your bedroom. I told him you were in the kitchen, reheating leftovers," Ricardo said.
