Odin
After Dad talked to Elias, I left work early and drove to the church. When I arrived, I entered to find kids from school gathered.
Uncle Oliver spotted me and walked toward me. "Hey, Odin."
"Hey, Uncle Oliver."
"Are you ready?"
"What does a youth group entail?"
"The attending kids discuss peer pressure and how to resist temptation."
"Uh, okay."
"Follow me." Oliver waved to me as he walked away.
I followed Uncle Oliver to a group of kids and discovered Demarco with them. What the hell was he doing here?
Demarco noticed me and walked toward me. "Hey, Odin."
"Hey, Demarco. What are you doing here?"
"My dad thought Oliver's youth group would help me."
"With what?"
"With a personal matter." Demarco shrugged.
I studied Demarco as he shifted in his spot. I'm not sure what happened to him, but something happened between him and Patrick. Dad never elaborated and said Patrick and Demarco worked out their issues.
"Hey, Demarco," a female voice said behind me.
I turned to see Sofie with another girl. My lips curled into a smile.
"Hey, Melody," Demarco said, stepping backward.
I glanced at Demarco as he kept his distance from the girl.
"I had a chance to find a passage about the temptation to discuss this evening." The girl patted the Bible on her arm.
"Oh, okay. Why don't you join the others? I'll let Reverend Harper know."
The girl smiled, nodded, and walked toward the group of people. Demarco walked in the opposite direction.
"Okay, I'm a little confused. Who is the guy?" Sofie asked me.
"That's my cousin, Demarco."
Sofie cocked her head. "How many cousins do you have?"
"Too many."
Sofie giggled.
We walked toward the group.
"So, my dad's driver, Ricardo, said my dad wanted him to spy on me."
I glanced at Sofie.
"Ricardo said he wouldn't if I could set him up with one of your family members."
I arched my brow.
"Ricardo is gay." Sofie rolled her eyes.
"I would, but Casper is dating someone."
Sofie's brows raised in surprise as I shrugged. We found a seat and sat down. Demarco moved chairs when the girl with Sofie sat next to him. Am I missing something?
"Welcome, everyone," Oliver said.
"Good evening, Reverend," everyone said.
"Who would like to start this evening?" Oliver asked.
A girl raised her hand.
"Yes, Melody?"
Melody stood, opened her Bible, and read 1 Corinthian 10:13. "No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can hear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it."
