Odin
Liam, Casper, and Val and his brothers returned to college, leaving us short of workers. That meant extra hours spent at the construction site, which left little time to spend with Sofie.
Kyler had to return to the center, and Sofie was starting senior year.
We managed to stay on schedule until Elias received a call from Val. After talking to Dad, he took off.
I stood at the makeshift table as Dad strolled back to me. "Is everything okay?"
"No." Dad shook his head.
"Do I want to know?"
"Elias has to deal with a past issue with his boys."
I nodded in understanding and didn't press Dad any further. It wouldn't do any good unless it were necessary.
After discussing a few things with my dad, I worked with Brian Harris to secure the windows and get them framed. "How's your sister doing?"
"She's okay, except she's driving Devin nuts."
"Why?"
After securing a window, we moved to the next one. "Reese has a thing for Raphael. She denies it but called Elias's wife in a panic over a shirt."
"Why a shirt?"
"Reese spilled coffee on Rafe's expensive shirt. Devin called to find out what happened since Rafe called Devin about it."
"Why didn't Rafe just talk to Reese?"
"Have you met those two?"
"I've met Rafe but not Reese. So, no."
"It doesn't matter because Rafe and Reese finally got their heads out of their asses and got together."
"How does Devin feel about it?"
"That's left to be decided."
I chuckled. I only knew about Reese because Devin and Brian worked for the company, and she dated my brother, Liam. I have yet to meet the girl.
After helping Brian the rest of the day, I packed up and headed home. I needed a shower, food, and to call Sofie.
*******
SofieMy phone rang with an incoming video call from Odin.
"Wow, you look dirty." I giggled.
"Welcome to construction life, where you can crawl in the muck."
I laughed.
"I was going to call you after I ate and showered, but I couldn't wait."
"I wouldn't have minded if you called me in the shower." I shrugged.
Odin arched his brow. "You're a dirty girl, Sofie."
I snickered. "So, how was your day, dear?"
"I prefer babe or baby. Dear makes it sound like my elders are talking to me."
"Okay, baby. How was your day?"
"It was okay except for Elias bolting."
I grabbed a bag of Cool Ranch Doritos from the pantry. "Why?"
"Val called him with some issue at school."
"What kind of issue?" I grabbed a glass, filled it with ice, and set it on the counter before holding a Pepsi and pouring it into it.
"I'm not sure. My dad wouldn't elaborate."
I propped my phone on the counter, slid into a chair, and tore open the chip bag. "Doesn't your brother go to school with your cousins?"
