Owen
While reviewing the building plans, Elias received a call from a prosecuting attorney regarding the situation with the boys. After speaking to the attorney, he hung up and pulled me aside. "We have a situation."
"What now?" I rested my hands on my hips.
"The authorities don't want us visiting the campus college."
"What?" I gave Elias a sideways glance.
"The prosecutor that took over the case doesn't want us to draw attention to the boys."
I rubbed my forehead and lowered my hand. "Elias, the boys are sitting ducks."
"Patton is implementing a curfew for all students. The police are issuing a nationwide curfew. I need to call Val."
I nodded as Elias walked away to call Val. I dug my phone out of my pocket and called Oliver. Yeah, he wasn't a happy camper after I explained the situation.
What the fuck, Owen?
"For a minister, you sure have a potty mouth."
Don't hand me that bullshit. I don't need a lecture about my language when people keep me from my boy.
"I don't like it any more than you do, but we taught the boys how to fight. Liam throws a punch as Uncle Liam does."
A punch won't stop a bullet. Do you honestly think this cocksucker won't arm himself?
"Nana's family taught us how to disarm people and defend ourselves. Our grammy is a crazy ass quint. Put both together, and all hell breaks loose."
Oh, sure. It's not like crazies aren't running amuck in our genealogical tree. Between the Jones, Shaw, Gray, and Harper, we're a special breed. We're fucking insane.
Oliver wasn't wrong.
Fine. But if shit goes south, I'm kicking your ass!
Click!
I pursed my lips, stared at my phone, and shook my head.
Elias walked over to me. "Why do you look miffed?"
"Oliver threatened to kick my ass if shit goes south."
"Do you think it's wise for you and Oliver to fight with everything?"
"Elias, have you met my brother? Oliver doesn't give a shit when situations involve the people he loves. Look at what he did to Don Wilson."
Elias narrowed his eyes and squinted as he leaned his head slightly. "Yeah, well, if Val gets his hands on Trevor, it won't bode well for Trevor."
I blew air past my lips.
*********
EliasTrying to stay on schedule with the house was proving difficult. After talking to Greg and Grayson, they agreed with the prosecuting attorney handling the case. If Tori and I showed up at the campus, it would tip off Trevor. We needed to have faith in our boys.
We worked until the sun started to set, then packed up. My phone rang with Val's name flashing across the screen. I didn't hesitate to answer it. "Val?"
Rafe broke his phone.
I rubbed my forehead. "What happened?"
He had a therapy session with Dr. Shaw and threw his phone against his bedroom wall. Romeo is going with him tomorrow to buy a new phone.
"I don't care if Rafe picks out an expensive phone. Get him a damn phone, Valentine. And tell Romeo to stick close to Raphael."
I promise.
