Chapter 21
"It appears all the countries have agreed. The villages are to become a joint force."
Yuna frowned, staring down into her cup of tea. She'd become a regular customer to the teashop she had once gone in for Intel. Not that she wasn't gathering more now, but the information she learned was souly for the safety of her and Itachi's unborn child.
Thinking of which, this war was the last thing she wanted. It was no secret the 'new' Akatsuki were still after tailed beast, and being there were two separate parts of kyuubi in the world. She was unsure of her own safety from being sealed.
The expecting mother placed a protective hand over her bulging stomach, Tobi may have left her child alive during their last meeting, but she feared he would show no mercy the next time their paths crossed.
"That means war is inevitable. I wonder what the Kazekage is planning...."
The demon's tails flicked under the skirt of her dress as she tried to ignore the rest of the two shinobi's conversation.
Gaara had been back in Suna for almost a week, and it had become one of Yuna's highest priorities to stay off the man's radar. Not that she expected to stay off it long. But she could dream, couldn't she?
The fiery colored beast placed a few coins down, before slowly getting up. She felt bloated and unsteady, compared to her old self. It seemed like every time she looked down she was losing sight of her feet.
Like she hadn't seen them in ages, and forget about bending over. She couldn't get down low enough to even pick up a soft, if she dropped it on the way to the washer.
After almost two weeks of living there, Yuna had met a kind old land lady. Who'd offered her on of the ground flats in her development. The demon couldn't imagine how she would have ever gotten up the eighteen steps it was to the second floor.
Letting out a small sigh, Yuna said her goodbyes to the waiter and shop owner, before turning towards home. Nap time was calling her name, and she'd be damned if she let anything get in the way of her much needed rest.
She was probably three yards away from her sanctuary when she heard a familiar voice. Though what bothered her was that it was coming from her flat, and if there was one thing the pregnant kitsune valued, it was privacy. Kami forbid they touched anything.
Grumbling, the demon unlocked her apartment door, letting herself in. She scanned what she could see of the entry way and living room to find the intruder examining the picture of Itachi and herself.
She glared at the red head, closing her door loud enough to alert him of her presence. "What the hell are you doing here, mah?"
His eyes seemed to widen, before he smiled, looking up at her. "I would have come sooner, but it has been chaotic the last few days." He replied, his eyes going wide again as he looked her over.
"Mah, how did you get in?" She hissed, taking her hood off, revealing two ears pointed back in annoyance.
"Your land lady is a very sweet old woman." He said, ruffling his hair, almost nervously.
The beast scowled, practically daring him to ask about her enlarged stomach. He'd hardly changed since their last meeting. Though his kage robes were missing from his person. He could have passed for a common shinobi, if not for the love kanji carved into his forehead.
The demoness scoffed, glancing to the side, looking at the picture on herself and her lover. "Why are you here? This kyuubi has done nothing to call your attention."
His smile softened as he looked into her burning rubies, with his sea foam green orbs. "You have done nothing, I was only coming to check up on an old friend, who could be in grave danger."
The kitsune didn't let him touch her, as he reached out, she put her hands on her stomach possessively. Clearly skittish of having someone so close to her unborn babe.
"Though I must admit, I am very surprised by what I've found." His gaze went to her stomach, before flickering to the picture frame. "Would it be correct for me to assume the father is-.." He trailed off, not sure whether stating the fallen raven's name was alright, since he was deceased.
She hesitantly nodded, her gaze holding with the Uchiha's in the picture.
"Does Sasuke know he should be expecting a niece or nephew?"
"No. Kyuubi doesn't want him to know anything." She hissed.
Gaara smiled, looking back at her, though the look on her face made him frown. "Yuna, you have my word that no harm shall come to you or your child while you remain in my village."
She hesitantly nodded, pain reflecting in her crimson orbs. "It was the only place I could think of... Everywhere else wants me captured." She whispered, her face contorted as she tried to keep her voice even.
He gave her a pitied look, advancing toward her, even when she shied away. He pulled her into a warm hug, his arms around her shoulders as he petted her head.
"There, there. Yuna-chan..." He soothed, resting his head on hers, as he gently rocked her in his arms. The beasty whimpered, clinging onto the back of his jacket, her whines sounding like a wounded puppy.
"When's the last time someone held you and wished all your worries away?" He asked, his nose buried in her soft red locks.
She didn't answer. She only held him tighter. She hadn't been held in a very long time, not like this. She never wanted it to end. She felt so alone. She hadn't heard Itachi's voice in months, and everyone else she held dear had perished.
There was no one left for her. Everyone was gone, leaving her all alone.
"Let me protect you, Yuna. Let me protect your family." He whispered, looking down to meet her drooped crimson gaze.
Her eyes were glowing like little hell fires. Gaara leaned down, a little too caught up to think of what the consequences might be. His lips were just about to skim hers, when she moved away.
His eyes went wide as he stared down at the expecting mother. Her eyes were down cast as she took a step back, her hands holding tightly to the chain around her neck, resting just above her heart.
He opened his mouth to speak, but no words came out. His infatuation for the kitsune had grown stronger over the years. Of all the chunin in the exams, she was the only one that understood how he'd felt. Even if he no longer felt the need to kill, his feelings for the nine tailed beasty had changed to a far stronger emotion.
He sighed, looking down at his own feet. "Forgive me, Yuna. I didn't mean to offend you." He bowed his head to her, before heading to the door.
".....Wait...! Gaara.....!"
A firm hold on his jacket sleeve prevented him from going outside the door frame. He looked back to see the small kitsune blushing darker than her fur color. He would have been amused if she hadn't just rejected him.
She didn't look up at him as she tried to form a complete sentence. "D-don't go...Kyuubi... Ca-n't.... Safe... Need..... You....." She panted.
A blush now found its way to the Kazekage's cheeks as he looked at the source of all his day dreams. Even if she was pregnant, he couldn't help but want her. She was glowing, almost literally.
"I need you too."
