Chapter 23
"Mah. You're leaving earl."
Gaara hesitated, in slipping his shoes on at the door, looking over his shoulder to find Yuna standing behind him. She was dressed in an oversized t-shirt, that surprisingly still fell past mid-thigh with her stomach as round as it was. He sighed, turning back to her. He'd tried to leave without rousing the beasty.
"A Kazekage's work is never done."
"How long will you be gone, mah?" It almost sounded like she never wanted him to leave.
"Quite a while. I am to meet with the other Kages. We must decide what course of action to take in this coming war."
The kitsune's ears drooped, her tails falling to the floor, but she nodded her head in understanding. Though he knew she'd probably like to make an argument as to why he should stay.
"Will you come back?"
"Of course, as soon as all this war business is over with."
Her frown deepened, hearing this. That meant he'd be gone a very long time. Her hands trailed to her stomach, she'd no doubt have given birth by then. The demon looked back at the kaze, a look of abandonment on her face.
He sighed again, putting his arms around her, pulling her into a soft embrace. "I'm doing this to protect you and the village. Maybe even find you a better place to hide." He said softly.
She nuzzled into his neck, not at all pleased. "My kit could be born before then..." She whispered.
The taller red head could only nod his head. Though he would have liked to be there for the delivery, he couldn't miss this meeting, or any that were sure to follow. The safety of his village depended on it.
"I'll be back when I can." He promised, before leaving.

"That's all fine!" The Tsuchikage grumbled. "And where will we hide the Jinjuriki?"
"Hide?!" Tsunade demanded, looking at the man as though he'd thrown in the towel already. "Naruto and Bee are major assets to our combat strength!! How can we just hide them away!?"
The small man was hardly annoyed by her raised voice. "That's what I thought as well, but those two are the enemy's targets in this war. Considering the possibilities, we can't send them to the front... We agreed upon that in the last meeting."
"The enemy is Uchiha Madara!" The Hokage persisted. "If we lose our shot at victory because we're unwilling to use our strength, we won't get a second chance! We need to strike hard with our full-"
"This is a war to protect those two." Gaara interrupted. "Hokage, you cannot make unilateral demands. We'll decide this by majority rule."
"You little punk" the woman sneered. "Naruto is-"
Again the Kazekage interrupted her. "If it's Naruto you want to talk about, I know him very well.. He'll do totally absurd things for the sake of his comrades.. That's precisely the problem."
This brought the blonde to silence, as even she knew this to be true of the jinjuriki.
"Before we even consider military strength.. Disunity among the five Kages will preclude victory." The lord overseeing the meeting commented.
"I also agree with them... Tsunade-sama." Shikaku said quietly.
"Tsk.. Enough.."
"Looks like the impudent slug princess is in good health after all.. That was some energetic testimony." The Tsuchikage commented, almost teasingly.
