TW - Death, Afterlife, Making Out In The Afterlife (:

Also not edited because I'm freaking lazy

—————

It's almost a relief, the day that death comes for him. It took him long enough, David thinks as he sees the underlying soul of a god form in front of him, fuzzily watching the green haired person spread their midnight black wings as they elegantly stopped in front of David on the battlefield. Their face looked like a dream, and their wings were akin to that of an angels as they strode towards him, posture lean and poised.

It's been eight whole months since he's been torn in two, ripped apart aggressively as though he was paper. So effortless, too, by the wills of the Fates, and the gods know that he never healed since then.

Lucas is crying, although David could barely pay any attention to that. His soul was in another plane, his essence slowly fading out of his body, controlling his limbs becoming a struggle as he faded out of consciousness. In Civilization, mortals are so easily killed. David wasn't good enough to protect who protected him, until it stole their last breath and their whole future. He had died when it should have been David that fell instead, and now, David was paying the price for his cheat of death. It's something that David had never been able to comprehend, and probably wouldn't for a long, long time.

He'd felt as though, in his last remaining days, he had drifted, though grounded himself firmly, the Devil Slayer determined to save as many people as he could from monsters before he inevitably perished. He fought monsters not only to save others, but to pay forwards all the lives that had been lost because of him, cut off from society only because He had died before David had.

The boy was stranded. Tired, as his limbs carried the weight of his existence. Homeless, because home was Mario Earthus, and Mario Earthus had passed on to the afterlife a good eight months earlier, slipping away beneath David's bloody hands all because he'd thrown himself between David and the giant monster, taking the fatal wound and saving his partner's life.

Lucas had found him. Lucas understood his agony, how easily that one could slip from another's arms in the blink of an eye. How they could fall, perish, drain their lives onto the laden earth in an instant, and that nobody would even have any time to think before they fell. He understood because of Ritchie, because of Nesso. He understood, but he hadn't hurt as David had. Nobody had hurt after Mario's passing as much as he.

David's got enough mortal awareness left, enough feeling in his body and hazy sight in his eyes, that he could still hear Lucas speaking to him, feel his hands on his shoulders, roughly shaking him as though it would stop the wound on his heart from taking his life.

"No no no, You can't go, David. Not you too." He wailed. Tears fell from his face, the poor God Slayer shaking in agony as he looked down at his brother.

"David Ginger." The god spoke from in front of them, their dark wings the same color as Mario's hair. Their voice was soft, although they already know that David won't resist. Lucas might, though. Lucas's head snapped towards the voice, and for the first time, he seemed to notice the god of the death and the afterlife standing right over the pair, a sad look on their face as their minty hair swayed in the breeze. Lucas sniffled. Right, God Slayer being able to see god essence. That was a thing David had completely forgotten about.
