Chapter sixteen ~ edited
We kept running for another fifteen minutes. He slowed down and stopped. I did the same.
"I need to show you something." He said.
"Ok." He shifted. Midnight disappeared and Seth appeared. "Seth?" I asked. It came out as nicker. He shifted back. He wouldn't have understood me. "Seth." I said again.
"Summer." He said back.
"What happened to me?" I asked.
"You changed when my herd was being captured."
"I know but why did I change?" I asked.
"I made you like us."
"Us?" I asked.
"Emily, Damon, me and a few others."
"Emily's like us?"
"My mum and dad too."
"Right and why did you make me a horse?"
"You weren't even meant to change that day." He didn't answer my question.
"Why did you change me?!" I asked, getting annoyed.
"We need to free the others."
"Seth stop stalling!" I said.
"Fine. You cared about my herd so much. I knew they were coming to capture the horses and since you had so much heart for wild horses..."
"Who's Damon?" I asked, remembering he mentioned a Damon.
"A friend."
"Right so you want me to do what exactly?"
"Help me save the herd."
"Why can't you parents help?" I asked.
"Complicated."
"Right."
"We still friends?" Seth asked.
"I guess."
"Thanks."
"What are we doing now?" I asked.
"Well we need to get the others out."
"Ok let's go." I started to turn around.
"No! Not yet. If we go back now we'll get captured again." Seth said.
"I didn't think of that. What do we do after we free them?"
"Run away. Never come back here."
Caleb had become my friend. Now I had to leave. Could I leave my friend?
"So when do we go?" I asked.
"At night."
"Ok."

It was almost time to go. It was slowly getting darker. We hadn't been followed. I was surprised they hadn't come after us. I looked up at the sky. The stars had come out and made the sky even more beautiful. Midnight walked over to me and looked at the sky too. I saw a orange tinge to the sky in the direction of the farm.
"Why is it orange over there?" I asked, moving my head in the direction of the orange glow.
"I don't know."
"I wonder why it's like that." I said.
"Come on it's time to go."
"Alright."
I followed Midnight. We cantered back towards the farm.
"Midnight I smell smoke." I said, worried.
"Me too." He picked up his speed into a gallop. I did the same.
We reached the farm. I stopped suddenly. Five of the horses were out. That wasn't the worst of it. The stable was on fire. But worst of all, Caleb was lying on the floor in the stable... Unconscious.
