"Joint mission?" Shinobu questioned her crow.
The bird nodded to reaffirm her
"That's odd." She thought to herself as she got up and finished sipping the last of her specialty brewed tea. Oddly bitter but sweet, just how she liked her tea.
Shinobu walked down the halls of the butterfly estate, she stopped by Kanae's office to say a quick goodbye and to notify her of the mission she just received.
"Alright, good luck, and stay safe." Kanae said while momentarily looking up from what she was doing.
Shinobu quickly exited the premise before stopping and also realizing she didn't exactly know what to do. Her crow told her about the mission's location but.... Not who her partner was. An odd occurrence since she never forgot mission details before.
Just as quickly as she thought about it her answer came.
"Kocho-San?" A familiar voice called out ahead of her.
She looked to where the familiar voice came from before spotting Giyuu leaning against one of the trees.
"Tomioka-San, I may need a little help." She said nervously.
"With with?"
"Well.... How do I put it."
Shinobu went on to ask about how to actually figure out who her partnering hashira was supposed to be.
"Well, isn't it obvious?" Giyuu said with his arms crossed.
Shinobu stared at him for a second. Her face although remaining neutral, told him everything he needed to know.
"She just figured it out....."
Shinobu stared at the ground for a moment.
"Oh..." she squeaked out before falling silent.
"I didn't expect it to be you." She commented still recovered from her embarrassment.
"It's customary for every hashira's first assignment to be a joint mission."
"It was like that for me as well." Giyuu explained.
"I see.... Kanae didn't tell me about that."
They made little chatter after that.
The two made off on their way to complete a pretty standard rank and file mission.
Go in, clear out any potential demons found and report back, simple stuff. With the addition of an extra hashira it practically made the entire mission trivial, the two completely swept the entire forest. Killing every demon they could find in under an hour before meeting back up at a designated area.
"How many did you find Tomioka-San?" She questioned curiously.
"4" he replied back flatly.
"Oh, I got 8 total." She said secretly proud of herself while she smiled.
Giyuu actually killed closer to 14 but he lied in hopes of not getting her spirits down. He just wished to see her happy.
"I've already called in for kakushi to clean up from here. They should arrive by sunrise." Giyuu said.
Shinobu nodded at her compatriot.
"Very simple. I find it pointless to have 2 hashira for something so simple, but, that's how it is." Giyuu griped.
"Well, sorry for wasting your time." Shinobu said with a huff.
"That's not what I meant." Giyuu replied even faster in his attempt to clear any misunderstandings she might have.
