"You said there was a strange marking that appeared on her neck?" Kagaya asked for clarification."Yes, when we fought the upper moon she had this flower like marking on her neck, but I don't see it anymore." Tanjiro answered.
The pillars looked towards their master.
Tanjiro had noticed an odd detail only two people here knew the significance of.
"My children... I believe it is time I tell you all something very important."
Kagaya didn't like the idea of having to say this, the trade offs were just so high.
"Long ago, when our founders and the Ubuyashiki family came together and formed this organization, there were certain... things.... left out of the official records."
"Certain bits and pieces of information were excluded for several reasons over the years, but, there's one that I believe could help solve our situation."
"This phenomenon you have just described is similar to this legend that dates back to the original breath users."
"My children, this power you have described is something I believe to be the 'Mark of a Slayer'."
Kagaya didn't like to tell them this, the information would likely devastate the futures of the young Hashira he had before him.
"It comes with a large increase to your physical characteristics, but it comes at a price. Those who awaken these 'marks' will die at the age of 25...." He finished explaining.
Mitsuri looked to Giyuu and Muichiro, they were also 'marked' like her. That meant they would all die at 25 just like her, at first the information devastated her knowing she only had a few years left to live.
"No! I can't think about the future, it's not even guaranteed I'll live that long!" Mitsuri reminded herself internally.
"To overcome the demon king and his remaining forces it is likely we will need these 'marks' power, please understand this well my children." He said with a heavy heart.
Shinobu listened to her master's words, the thoughts ran through her head.
"Mark, die by 25...."
She remembered Giyuu saying he felt something similar to Mitsuri when she supposedly got this 'mark'.
"Giyuu is-....."
She felt like throwing up, it hit her just as quickly as the others apparently.
After the master had left it was eerily silent amongst the now dismissed pillars.
Everyone took the information they received differently.
"How do we go about obtaining this mark?" Gyomei asked.
"I have a few ideas." Giyuu said to the group.
Everyone looked at him.
"There's a few common factors that I've noticed on how to get this 'mark'." He said.
"You've noticed it too?" Muichiro said surprised.
"The three of us all fought upper moons when we obtained this 'mark'. We also have recorded instances of high body temperature and fastened heartbeats right before these supposed 'marks' appeared." He explained.
"Shinobu-San said my temperature was 39 degrees Celsius (102 Fahrenheit) when I arrived at the butterfly estate, my heart rate was also recorded to have surpassed 200 beats per minute." The boy explained.
"Then it's likely those are the minimal conditions to get a 'mark'." Gyomei said.
"So fight a powerful demon, survive life threatening conditions and you get one?" Sanemi asked.
