Chapter Twenty-Eight: Getting Stories Straight

Ami's Pov

I lay in my bed, staring blankly at the ceiling. I don't have much time before I have to meet with Ozpin and tell him everything that's happened since the apartment building. And then...there's the matter of (Y/N)...what do I even say about that? Hey Ozpin, remember that student that we all bullied? Yeah, he's that  Salem fellow we encountered and seems to be working with Romen and his cronies. How would he react? Would he be angry and vengeful and have us try to kill (Y/N)? Or would he attempt to patch things up with (Y/N)? How would (Y/N) react to either, probably not well. I shake my head to clear my head to get rid of these thoughts. I sit up, deciding to go see Ozpin now. As I head out of my dorm and into the hallway...
Yang: "GET OUT OF MY SISTER'S BED!!!"
Kip: "Oh? If this is your sister's bed, then where is she?"
Yang: "NONE OF YOUR BUSINSESS!!"
I sigh as Kip seems to be "acquainting" himself well, I just hope Yang doesn't break him in half. I shake my head and continue my way to Ozpin's office.

I walk into Ozpin's office, seeing that he appears to be going over some documents. Most likely having to do with the weapons workshop hidden in the apartment building. I take a seat across from him and wait for him to give me his attention. As I wait, my mind once again swirls with the thoughts of what to say about everything. I get so caught up in my thoughts that I don't even realize that Ozpin is ready for me. He snaps his fingers in front of me.
Ami: "A-Ah! My apologies."
Ozpin: "No need to apologize, I understand that you've been through a lot."
He adjusts himself in his seat.
Ozpin: "Now then...tell me everything that happened from the very beginning."
Ami: "...Alright then...it all started when we saw Ruby and Emerald..."

Ruby's Pov

I'm awoken as I feel something nudging into me. I groggily open my eyes and see Emerald next to me...nudging me in her sleep.
Ruby: "E-Emerald!"
I do my best to scooch away from Emerald, getting close to the cell bars. Mercury was sleeping near the bars having tired himself out from rattling on them all day yesterday...again. I sigh and lean against the bars, wondering about how we were going to get out of this one. After a bit of resting and looking around, Mercury slowly stirs.
Mercury: "Yaaaawwwwn...good morn...oh...still in this shit hole I see..."
Ruby: "Yeah...unfortunately."
Mercury adjusts himself, looking out the bars. I rub my arm nervously as I look at him.
Ruby: "...How long do you think they're going to keep us here...?"
Mercury: "Who knows...they probably want information from us. And to also keep us out of the way."
Ruby: "Oh..."
He lets out a long drawn out sigh.
Mercury: "If only we had some kind of way out...even for just one of us..."
Ruby: "J-Just one of us!?"
Mercury: "Well one of us getting out is better than none of us getting out..."
I look down at the floor, processing what Mercury has said. Suddenly I feel his hand on my shoulder.
Ruby: "H-Huh?"
Mercury: "Ruby...out of the three of us...you have the biggest chance of getting out of here."
Ruby: "Mercury...w-what are you...?
Mercury: "Shush...I need you to listen to me. I have a plan that has a good chance of working."
I look at his face...this is the most serious I've ever seen him. I close my eyes and take a deep calming breath. I open my eyes with a new found determination.
Ruby: "Alright...what do I need to do?"

Ami's Pov

Ami: "...And that's my full report on everything that has happened."
Ozpin looks at me, a mix of shock and horror on his face. I don't blame him for that reaction. He takes a deep breath, trying to find the words to respond my report.
Ozpin: "I...I can't believe it...that is a very troubling report..."
He stands up and takes a look out the window.
Ozpin: "I...just don't know how to react to that news..."
Ami: "Well...that is very understandable."
I stand up myself.
Ami: "May I be excused now? I'd like to tell my team that I've given my report."
Ozpin: "...Yes...yes, go ahead."
I turn on my heel and begin to walk towards the exit. I depart in the elevator and head down to my team dorm.
Ami: "..."

...

As I walk through the dorm halls, I see Yang trying to push Kip out of her dorm
Yang: "Get out!! You don't need to spend all of your time in here!"
Kip: "No no, I have to stay in here. Ozpin's orders~"
Yang: "Gah!! So annoying!"
I sigh and walk by them, heading into my own dorm room. I see Milly and Reilly playing a board game on the floor. They look at me as I take a seat on my bed.
Milly: "So how did it go? Did you tell Ozpin about everything?"
I nod as I limply stare at the wall. I hear Reilly start to chuckle.
Reilly: "Heh, I would've loved to see the look on his face when you told him that (Y/N) was still alive~"
I simply stay silent as Reilly chuckles. Unfortunately, they both pick up on my silence and they stand up. They look at me concerned and get closer to me.
Reilly: "Ami...you did tell Ozpin about who Salem really was...right?"
Ami: "...I..."
Milly: "Ami...?"
Ami: "...I didn't tell Ozpin about (Y/N)..."
They both look at me wild-eyed and before they could scream out, I cover their mouths to stop them.
Ami: "Shhh! I...I have a reason for not doing so..."
They both look at me if I was crazy, but they at least wait for my explanation. I clear my throat and ready myself.
Ami: "I...didn't tell Ozpin about (Y/N) because...the owners of the workshop and the labor camp are a bigger threat to everyone. And..."
My voice hitches as I prepare the next part.
Ami: "...and I feel like we owe it to (Y/N) for everything we've done. This...this is the first step to making it up to him."
Reilly looks at me annoyed and moves my arm away.
Reilly: "Right, like he could forgive us for what he's done and that we can forgive him for what he's done."
Ami: "He's only doing these things because of what we've done! He's seeking revenge against us and if we don't want anymore bloodshed between us...we have to make amends."
Reilly: "Make amends...really?"
I glare at Reilly as I feel some anger building up.
Ami: "Listen here, I don't care what you think about my decision. As team leader I order you to keep silent about Salem's true identity. Got it?"
Reilly: "Wha!? You can't do that!!"
Ami: "I can, and you will listen to me! Got it?"
Reilly just scoffs and turns her back to me. Before any can say another word, there's a frantic knock on our door. The tense atmosphere calms down and I make my way to the door and open it. Blake is on the other side.
Ami: "Oh, Blake! What is it?"
She just stares at me for a little bit before she speaks.
Blake: "We have an update on Ruby."
Ami: "Eh? What's happened?"
Blake: "We don't know, you might want to come see for yourselves."
Reilly: "I'll pass, I'm actually feeling quite frustrated about something at the moment."
I don't need to look to know that Reilly is glaring at me.
Milly: "U...Ummm...I'll stay as well. I'm not feeling very well..."
Guess she doesn't know what to think about what I have planned.
Ami: "Guess it's just me then."
Blake: "Alright, let's get going."
I follow after Blake to the holding cell where Ruby, Mercury and Emerald are.

Me and Blake enter the scene and see Yang hugging Ruby extremely tightly.
Yang: "Oh thank Oum that you're safe!!"
Ruby: "Y-Yang! You're crushing me!"
Ami: "Uhh...what's going on? I thought that Ruby was with the bad guys?"
Yang shoots me a quick glare before softening up.
Yang: "Well it turns out that Ruby never was evil! Salem just used his semblance to control her actions the entire time!"
Ruby: "Y-Yeah...I was unconscious the entire time. I just woke up confused as to why I was locked away with Mercury and Emerald. Then I got all aggressive as they're the bad guys, so I beat them up!"
I look pass them and see a beaten Mercury and Emerald. They look...very worse for wear.
Yang: "Yeah, so Ruby didn't mean all the stuff she did while with Salem!"
Ami: "Well...that's a good thing to hear."
I scratch the back of my head as I look at Ruby.
Ami: "So...do you remember anything about your time with Salem?"
Ruby: "Nothing...I was unconscious the entire time..."
Ami: "Hmm...that's unfortunate."
Yang: "Yeah. Imagine what kind of position we'd be in if Ruby saw the face under Salem's mask! Then he'd have nowhere to hide!"
I flinch slightly as Yang says that...as does Ruby? though that may be because Yang is still holding her.
Blake: "Hmm...anyway I think we should get Ruby back to our dorm Yang. She could use the rest."
Yang: "Oh! Good thinking Blake!"
She starts to drag Ruby behind her.
Yang: "With Ruby back we can kick Kip out of our dorm!"
Ruby: "E-Eh? Who's Kip?"
Yang, Ruby and Blake make their way out of the holding cell area. I take another look at Mercury and Emerald. They move slightly as they start to wake up. I decide to make myself scarce before they can fully wake up. Besides...I have other business to deal with...mainly Reilly and Milly.
Ami: "...I just hope they haven't told anyone while I've been gone..."
