Chapter Twenty Six: Great Escape

Marry (late) Christmas! And if you don't celebrate Christmas I hope you have/had a nice holiday. This is my gift to you guys a chapter that is over 4000 words! Hope you enjoy!

Ami Pov

Everything hurts...I feel myself laying on a sorta soft surface. I try to open my eyes but only one of them opens. I see a wooden ceiling...no wait, its actually the top frame of a bunk bed. I move my head to one side and see that there are more bunk beds. I look to the other side and see yet more bunks. I sit up in bed and my abdominal region erupts in pain. I look around and see my reflection in a window...it doesn't look good. My left eye is swollen shut. I get out of the bed and look around, the only furniture are bunk beds in this small building. I look around for Milly, Reilly and even (Y/N), but I don't see any of them. There were however all sorts of people around but they paid me no mind. As I look around the room my eyes stop on the door, it must be the exit. I limp my way to the door to see if they are perhaps outside. As I get closer to the it I see the door open and Milly walks through. She looks at me in surprise.
Milly; "What are you doing out of bed! You need to get back into bed."
Ami; "Milly, I assure you I'm fine enough to be out of bed. But I was looking for you. Did anything happen after I was beaten to unconsciousness? Also where is Reilly?"
Milly rolled her eyes and dragged me back to the bed and we both sat down. Milly closes eyes and takes a breath before opening her eyes again.
Milly; "So after you stopped that man from shooting (Y/N) which made him ruthlessly beat you. This other man named Fritz walked up to (Y/N) and he took him to the big house. Meanwhile we were lead to this... bunkhouse. They said that we would be staying here for a while. And as to where Reilly is...well she is busy doing some physical labor."
Ami; "Physical labor?"
Milly; "Yeah, the guards assign us to either harvest metal in the mine or harvest some of the surrounding trees. Reilly is using her free time to work in the mine to earn credits to exchange for medical supplies."
Ami: "Where did you learn all of this?"
Milly: The other residents told me and Reilly all of this. Anyway, the guards don't trust us with money so they give us credits. The credits are just a wooden circle with a number carved into it."
The door to the cabin open and I look to see Reilly, covered in dirt and soot, stumbling over to the bunk Milly and I were siting in. Once reaching the bunk she also sits down.
Reilly: "Hey there, I see you're awake. You feeling okay?"
Ami: "Yeah...why are you covered in dirt?"
Reilly: "Some dumbass caused part of the mine to collapse. Luckily only he got buried alive and the guards gave us extra credits for making it out alive."
Milly: "But what about the person who caused the tunnel collapse?"
Reilly: "The guards will dig him out and if he's alive they'll make him clear the tunnel."
Reilly laughs to herself. Reilly and Milly seem to have adapted quickly to this new life, which is a little concerning.
Ami: "You guys seem used to this..."
Reilly: "Well when you spend four days doing back breaking labor, you have to get used to it."
I pause...
Ami: "Did you just say four days...?"
Milly: "Yeah...yo were out cold for four days. We thought you were actually dead and not unconscious."
I put a hand to my head as I process this information. I shake my head, there are more important things to focus on.
Ami: "We'll worry about that later. Did either of you learn who Rezalvar is?"
Reilly and Milly look at each other then back at me.
Reilly: "The only thing we learned was that he is some important official."
???: "Did you say Rezalvar?"
I look to where the voice had come from and see a short and shaggy looking mouse faunus. He smiled and walked over to us. The man started to lean against the bunk.
Man: "My name is Kip, and I believe you were talking about Commander Rezalvar."
Ami: "Commander?"
Kip: " You see, Rezalvar isn't just an official...he has a position in the military."
Milly: "Is he part of the Atlas military?"
Kip: "Ha! Thats a funny joke, have you seen the guards equipment?"
Ami: "Well were is he from?"
Kip: "No clue...I've only been here for four months. But stories from the others say this place has been occupied by these guys for years. The mine is a repurposed dust mine."
Ami: "What else do you know?"
Kip: "The only other thing I know is that he is coming for an inspection. Rezalvar is also coming here to pick up some weapons he requested and a prisoner."
Milly: "How do you know that."
Kip only points to his mouse ears and says nothing else. I put a hand to my chin and think. If Rezalvar is coming to this place...it wouldn't be easy to escape as he would presumably bring more guards with him. But...
Reilly: "Do you know the name of the prisoner?"
Kip: "All I know is that the prisoner is in the large house."
Milly: "Could the prisoner be (Y/N)?"
Kip: "Wait...(Y/N) as in (Y/N) (L/N)?"
Ami: "Yeah, why?"
Kip looks around for a minute. After a bit he looks back at us.
Kip: "I'll help you escape."
Milly: "Why would you help us?"
Kip: "I've been planning to leave for a while. I have business to get back to."
I look at Milly and Reilly and they nod. I look back at Kip. A small part of me wonders why he would help complete strangers. Even stranger that he is will to do so after hearing (Y/N)'s name...
Ami: "If you want to help us then okay. When will Rezalvar be here?"
Kip: "He will be here sometime today and he will stay here for a while."
Ami: "Alright so what is the plan?"
Kip: "Well you see..."
