Chapter Twenty Three: Prison Talks

3rd Pov-Dungeons in Wilfre's Castle

In the dorm-like cell that contained Velvet, the rabbit faunus was laying on her bed reading a book. Then...the door slowly creaks open taking Velvet's attention away from her book as she peers at the door trying to see who was coming into her cell. However Velvet doesn't see anyone come into the room and the door closes by itself. Velvet gets the idea that the cell is unlocked but she doesn't want to try to escape, not when she knows that (Y/N) is here. Velvet goes back to reading her book, shifting to lay on her stomach. A chair falls over startling Velvet who quickly turns over to look at the chair. The chair landed on the bed, feeling scared Velvet gets mostly under the covers and waits. The chair starts to creak as something moves on it. Letting out a small "eep" Velvet hides her head under the covers and starts to tremble. She feels something get onto the bed and walk towards her head. The creature stops when it gets to Velvet's chest. Velvet is trembling even more now and hoping that someone comes to save her. After a couple minutes with nothing having happened, Velvet's curiosity was higher than her fear. Slowly, Velvet lowered the covers and saw something familiar. Velvet saw a baki standing on her chest staring directly at Velvet. Velvet's fear completely disappeared...well not completely, she hadn't had any interaction with one of these creatures up close before. It also didn't help that Velvet didn't even know what they are. After waiting a couple more minutes with nothing happening Velvet decides to strike up a conversion with the baki.
Velvet: "So...how are you?"
The baki just continues to stare at Velvet. Velvet puts her book down and stares the baki in the eyes. The baki walks even closer to Velvet. Velvet starts to say something when the baki suddenly dashes for Velvet's book and grabs it.
Velvet: "Hey!"
Before Velvet can stop it, the baki runs to the door. The door opens and (Y/N) walks into the room. The baki stops in front of (Y/N) and starts hopping up and down. (Y/N) shakes his head and takes his mask off. Picking up the book, (Y/N) pats the baki on the head and walks over to Velvet. The baki runs out of the room as (Y/N) sits down on the bed next to Velvet.
(Y/N): "Sorry about that. Bakis...are not very intelligent and that one apparently thought that your book was the Book of Life."
(Y/N) puts Velvet's book on the nightstand.
Velvet: "What are you doing out of bed? I had heard you had gone through a very serious accident."
(Y/N): "Never mind that. Have you heard the other news?"
Velvet: "Yeah...you captured the rest of my team along with Winter Schnee.
(Y/N): "Yeah, now lets go."
Velvet: "Huh!?"
Standing up (Y/N) takes Velvet by the arm and takes Velvet out of the room. As they walk out the door (Y/N) puts his mask back on and they both continue to walk through the hallway. After about six minutes of walking they stop at one of the cells. Before entering (Y/N) turns to Velvet. (Y/N) pulls something out of his cloak and moves his hands to Velvet's face. Velvet feels something put over her mouth, she looks at (Y/N) with confusion.
(Y/N): "Sorry about the tape...I just don't want you to speak to them yet. Let me handle this, and don't give away my identity, even if they take the tape off."
Velvet then feels something restricting her hands and when she looks at them she sees a pair of cuffs. Velvet looks back at (Y/N) with annoyance. (Y/N) nervously chuckles and turns to the metal door and inserts a key into the door handle. Opening the door (Y/N) leads Velvet into the room, immediately (Y/N) ducks as a book flies across the room. Keeping Velvet behind him, (Y/N) looks around the room. Coco was siting on the bed with her arms crossed, Yatsuhashi was sitting at the desk reading a book and Fox was laying on the ground.
(Y/N): "Why would you throw a book at me? You have a very nice room."
Coco: "We're here against our will and you expect us to be happy."
(Y/N): "But I brought you a friend..."
(Y/N) grabs Velvet from behind him and gently pushes her to the bed. Coco's eyes widen and she looks at (Y/N) with even greater anger. Coco grabs Velvet and takes the tape off her mouth. Yatsuhashi looks behind him then he goes back to his book.
(Y/N): "Oh, and here is the key to her cuffs."
(Y/N) tossed the key to the cuffs to Coco who grabbed them and looked at (Y/N) with contempt as she unlocked Velvet's cuffs.
Coco: "So you had Velvet this entire time. Exactly why did you capture her?"
(Y/N): "It wasn't that I wanted to capture her, it was more that I needed to."
Coco: "What reason could you possibly have to need to kidnap Velvet?"
(Y/N): "...She saw me murder CDRL and I couldn't have her say who killed them."
After making that statement (Y/N) left the cell in a slight hurry. As he walked through the dungeon hall, (Y/N) started to think of the wager he made with Ferdinand. Could he find the workshop in time...what if he couldn't? (Y/N) shook his head to break his train of thought. Then he stopped walking and looked at the cell door he was now in front of. Opening the door just a bit he saw Winter in the cell, chained to the bed. Winter was looking at the door and when she saw (Y/N) she shot him a glare. (Y/N) scoffed and debated going to talk with Winter but he decided to save it for another time, after all there was someone more important to talk to. Closing the door (Y/N) began to walk the dungeon halls again with a clear goal in mind. After a while he was at the end of the hall in front of a heavy looking steel door. After closing his eyes and taking a deep breath, (Y/N) unlocked the cell door and walked into the room. The room was made of steel to minimize escape. On the wall opposite the door was Salem, the queen of the grimm, restricted by many steel chains that restricted movement of any kind. Before (Y/N) opened the door Salem was staring at the ground but as soon as he dis open the door Salem shot a glare directly at (Y/N) and if looks could kill, there would be nothing left of (Y/N). (Y/N) walked to the center of the room and the two of them just stared at each other for a while.
Salem: "Why have you come to my cell?"
(Y/N): "I came to talk to you about a common enemy we have."
Salem's glare didn't ease up but she was intrigued by this notion.
Salem: "And what enemy would that be?"
(Y/N): "Ozpin."
Salem's glare still didn't disappear even after (Y/N) mentioned Ozpin was a shared enemy.
(Y/N): "Why hasn't your glare dissipated? Ozpin is a common enemy between us."
Salem: "Because I know what you are going to do. I would sever under you and then when you don't have a use for me you would kill me so I couldn't threaten you."
(Y/N): "That's a bold assumption to make of me. Why would I get rid of someone who can be useful to future goals of mine?"
Salem: "That is what I would do with you."
Salem continues to glare at (Y/N) with a death stare. (Y/N) decided he wouldn't be getting any further with Salem so he turned back to the door to leave.
Salem: "When I break free of this cell, you will be the first I kill."
(Y/N): "You'll have to get out of the chains and find me first."
As soon as (Y/N) exited the cell he put a hand to his face and sighed in frustration. The frustrating part was (Y/N) couldn't kill Salem, he needed her control over the grimm to help take down whatever force Ozpin could muster. While debating going back and trying in vain to convince Salem to join his cause, Mercury was making his way toward (Y/N), scroll in hand. (Y/N) looked up as he saw Mercury come closer.
(Y/N): "What is it?"
Mercury: "Emerald, she wants to speak with you."
Mercury handed (Y/N) the scroll and then started leaning against the wall. (Y/N) brought the scroll to his ear.
(Y/N): "Hello?"
Emerald: "(Y-...Salem, are you there."
(Y/N): "Yes, I'm here. Do you have an update?"
Emerald: "Not really. Me and Ruby looked everywhere around Vale and found nothing suspicious. Now we're just hanging around some cookie shop while we think of our next move."
(Y/N): "Are you sure you found nothing?"
The call was silent for a bit until Emerald spoke again.
Emerald: "There was this apartment building with a suspicious desk manager, but it was very populated."
(Y/N): "How do you know this?"
Emerald: "Some residents went through the lobby and they asked us what we were doing."
(Y/N): "Hmm...I will be there shortly, I want to see this apartment building. Wait near the building for me."
Emerald: "Oh, alright then. See you there."
(Y/N): "Goodbye."
Hanging up the call, (Y/N) gave Mercury his scroll back and they both make their way through the hall.
Mercury: "You're gonna go to some apartment building? Are you gonna rent a room?"
(Y/N); "No, but I will need you to come with me as well. I have a feeling that it is more than an apartment building."
Mercury: "Alright then lets go."
(Y/N): "Hold on, I need to change my outfit. I have a steep bounty in my head."
Mercury: "A bounty! How much is it?"
(Y/N): "What, you thinking of turning me in?"
Mercury started to sweat a little bit.
Mercury: "Y-you really think I could actually get away with turning you in for a bounty. You would probably kill me before I could get you and if I did, I would have to deal with Cinder, Neo, Ruby, Emerald, all of White Fang and Raven with her tribe of bandits!"
(Y/N): "What about Roman?"
Mercury: "Eh, I could probably bribe him with the reward money."
(Y/N): "Yeah probably, or I could just draw up more lien than the bounty and give it to him. Then when the problem sorts itself out make the lien disappear."
Mercury: "To be honest, that would be hilarious."
The two men share a laugh as they walked down the hall.
