Sean pov.
I saw her stumbling. "No, no, no", I thought and tried to run faster...but it was already too late. She fell onto the road. And as she fell a car was driving by. I heard (y/b/n) scream: "No!" But it was inevitable. The driver had no time to react. He tried his best to stop...but he could not prevent the inevitable.
(y/n) was hit by the car. She flew onto the hood and rolled back down as the driver hit the brakes. She laid on the road. Everybody just stood there in shock, processing what had happened.
I immediately rolled her onto her back. She was unresponsive. The driver got out of the car. He too was white as a sheet. "WHAT IN THE SWEET HELLS WERE YOU THINKING?!", he screamed at the boys. They just stared at him in shock. None of them said anything. "I...I...did not mean to...", (y/b/n) stuttered. He was about to cry. I turned around. "Shut up! Pull yourself together and call a fucking ambulance!", I shouted at him. To my surprise he actually did what I said and pulled out his phone.
The driver helped me stabilising (y/n). There was not much we could do to help her. Luckily the ambulance showed up quickly – as well as the police. I made sure that none of the boys could get away. The principal and all of the teachers came out to see what all the commotion was about. When they saw, their jaws dropped to the floor. A few students briefed them about what had gone down.
A few minutes later the paramedics had her stabile enough to transfer to the hospital. I quickly asked the driver where they were heading so I could visit her later. He told me they were heading to the nearest hospital so her chance of survival would increase. "Her...her chance of survival?", I stuttered. "Her condition is pretty critical. Honestly...I'm not sure if she'll make it there..." Then they drove off. I had to sit down.
The driver was the first to be questioned. I was so excited that I didn't really realize what exactly he had said. Then the police came to me. I told them everything (y/n) had told me in the last few days. I told them about the encounter in the park on Saturday, about the messages that (y/b/n) and the others had sent her.
After what I said, it was clear who would be questioned next. (y/b/n) became even paler than he was before when the police officers went to him. They called for a second patrol to question the remaining people. Then they took (y/b/n) with them. They even dropped the words "attempted murder".
I went to the principal. I had to have a word with her before I left. "Are you the principal?" I asked, my voice already full of anger. "Yes...Yes, I am. Who are you?" "Just a friend of (y/n). Someone who really cared about her and wanted to help her. Not like you." "Excuse me?" "(y/n) was often with you and told you that (y/b/n) and the others wouldn't leave her alone, but you didn't do anything." "I...I don't know what you want from me now. I...do my best to keep this school as tolerant and safe as possible. I..." I interrupted her. "Great job keeping (y/n) safe..." Then I left. I had heard enough excuses for one day.
I drove to the hospital. They told me she was in the ICU. I went there but got stopped by the head-nurse upon entering her room. "I'm sorry. Only the partner or closest family-members are allowed to see Ms. (y/l/n)." "Oh..." "Who are you?" "I...I'm none of that...But I am a close friend.... Please..." "I'm sorry Mr..." "McLoughlin." "Mr. McLoughlin. I'm sure you two are good friends but..." "I understand. You're not allowed to let me in." I looked around. Behind me were two seats mounted to the wall. "I'll sit here and wait...if that's okay with you of course", I asked politely. This way I could still see into her room. She smiled at me. "That's okay with me." She told me that (y/n) was bleeding internally when she arrived and they did an emergency surgery to save her life. As of now she was stable but still unresponsive.
A lot of time passed and nothing really changed. Doctors and nurses went in and out of her room. Most of them asked me who I was and I responded with: "A good friend of (y/n)." I knew that if I would lie to them and say I was her brother, they would kick me out and that would be it. So, I waited patiently. The head-nurse brought me some hot chocolate. "Thank you." "No problem." She paused for a second. "Where you there when..." I nodded. "Yes. I ran towards her but...I did not make it in time to prevent it." I chucked down the hot chocolate. "I kinda blame myself for it happening. I screamed at them to make them stop but that only made it worse. They did not pay attention and that's why she fell onto the road." "I don't think it was your fault at all. You did what you thought was best to help her...In fact...without your quick reaction and first aid she would likely have died before the paramedics arrived." I was not sure what to say. I had to process all of that. "I'll take a quick look at her." She went inside and came out. "No changes yet", she told me. "Thank you." She nodded and went back to her desk.
Three hours later a man and a woman came out of the elevator. They looked for a room. "Here it is", the woman said and they waited in front of (y/n)'s door. "Should we go in?" "I think we should ask a nurse first", the man said. I looked at them. I figured that they might be her parents. "Mr. and Mrs. (y/l/n)?", I asked them. "Yes?" They both turned around and looked at me. I stood up from the chair. "I'm Sean. I'm a good friend of (y/n)." Her mother's lips formed a brief smile. "You must be that YouTube-guy (y/n) told us about yesterday. Hi, my name is (y/m/n). I'm her mother." I shook her hand. Her dad greeted me too.
"Could you perhaps tell us what exactly happened?" "I wanted to pick her up from school. I promised her I would be there at 15:20 but my car was not starting properly so I was a bit late. I ran to the school and saw those boys from her class pushing her back and forth on the pavement. She must have slipped on the edge of the sidewalk...And then...she got hit by a car. It...it was all happening so fast. The driver had no time to react." "I understand...And the boys. What happened to them?" "The police took one of them with them. I don't know what happened to the rest." "Okay...Thank you Sean", her mother said. "We're just relieved she's alive. When the police called us, we immediately drove to the airport and told them what had happened. They checked and luckily 2 seats were available on the 16:30 flight that was making a stop in Dublin." The head-nurse came to us.
"You must be Mr. and Mrs. (y/l/n)", she asked them. They both nodded. "You can come in", she said and opened the door. I sat down on the chair again. Her mother turned around and looked at me. "Are you not allowed in?" I nodded. "Only partner or closest family", I said. "I'll talk to the nurse. Maybe you can come in a few minutes before we leave." I smiled. "Thank you."
So I waited patiently. Her parents stayed with her for around two hours. The doctors came in from time to time and did some tests. Her mother came out the room and sat down next to me. "She has a serious head injury. As of now they are unsure if the brain has taken any damage. That's why they are also unsure if she'll wake up or...or not." She looked at me. "The doctors told us that without first aid and CPR she would not have survived...Thank you...Thank you so much." She was crying. I felt tears coming as well, but I wanted to pull myself together. I needed to stay strong. "She means a lot to me...", I said. "I wish...I could have prevented it...I would have been there at 15:20 if my car would have started in time...I ran as fast as I could but...I was still too slow..." Her mother took out a pack of tissues and handed one to me. "Don't blame yourself. Blame the boys who did this. The police called an hour ago. They finished questioning all of the witnesses and arrested some of the boys who pushed her around. They want to wait with their investigation until (y/n) is awake again. If...if she won't wake up...the prosecution will press for homicide. It might sound heartless but...in my opinion, that is exactly what they deserve." I said nothing.
Her mother stood up. "Anyways...we'll go to our hotel now. We'll come back later. I talked to the nurse about you. You are allowed to go in and stay with her for a while. They'll run some tests in around 15 minutes. That's when you'll have to leave." "That's okay...Thank you. Thank you very much." "That's the least we can do..." Her father came out of the room too. We shook hands. "Thank you so much for saving my girl", he said. I nodded. The nurse looked at me from her desk. "15 minutes", she said. I nodded and opened the door.
I was already able to hear all the beeping outside, but it was even louder and more intimidating now that I was in the room. I slowly walked towards her bed. She laid there – eyes closed, breathing tube, vires all around her. A lot of tubes going into her arms. I now knew why she wore long sleeves all the time. "Oh (y/n)", I said quietly. I sat down on the chair next to her bed and took her hand. Her skin was so soft. "Hey...", I started talking, "I know that you can hear me. So listen carefully: you are the most amazing person I've ever met. And I want to share so many more wonderful moments with you and spend so much more time with you. So I just want to tell you that you can't give up now. You can't let these assholes win." I looked at her. "I know, I should have told you yesterday how much I liked you but...I was scared to fuck it up. You were so overwhelmed by the situation, so I decided it was for the best to not tell you how I really felt about you...But... everything I said yesterday is true. You are strong. You're a fighter...You got this...Please...Don't leave me now..." Silence – except for the beeping. I just sat there, holding her hand. That was all I wanted to do. Be by her side.
