Their routine went on as the hidden sun began to set, soon enough they decided to rest in a gas station, the food wasn't taken, it was ripped apart and spread around. The children now had better clothing, fortunately the first home that they stopped in had children clothing that they could change into, especially Molly since she wore a bright yellow dress when entering the grocery store that early morning with her sister. Now she wore thick sweatpants that kept her warm and a thick jacket.
Stephan had found a baby carrier, which made it easier to carry the baby in, with Beatrice's careful insertion. Not once was he allowed to look at her baby, gaining curiosity in the children's faces.
"Come to think about it, I've never heard your baby cry." Stephan asked with a strange look.
"My baby Sofia is so well behaved; she is a baby that does not cry." Beatrice said with a proud look in her strangely emotionless eyes.
"Must not eat either, I haven't seen you feed that baby since we got locked in the grocery store either." Casket said as she narrowed her eyes.
"She just doesn't have an appetite at the moment." Beatrice reasoned, her eyes now wide and alert. "Why are you all attacking me right now?!"
"Let us see the baby to make sure she's okay." Avery stepped in now.
"You have no right to request that from me, get away!" She was now on guard, ready to lash out at anyone coming near her.
"Just lift the blanket, we're not asking you to hand over your daughter, lady." Henry said with a look of irritation, as if he always got what he wanted and did not expect retaliation from his requests.
"No, stop, Ill report you to the police!" She picked up baby Sofia from her stroller and clutched her into her arms.
"Just let me see her!" Henry was now stopping towards Beatrice.
"Alright Henry, calm down it's not a big deal-" Avery tried to dissipate the tension in the gas station, but was cut off by the black-haired father, he sounded concern for the baby, his eyes now looked obsessed to see Sofia.
"No, what is she did something back to the baby?!" Before anyone could pull Henry back and calm him down, he was now in a struggle with Beatrice.
"Stop, you're hurting her!" Beatrice looked pale and scared.
"Enough, you're going to drop her." Henry snapped.
"Henry quit it; you're not making the situation any better!" Casket shouted with a look of worry.
"Crazy bitch." Henry sighed with disgust at the woman before he looked at his son who look to be uncomfortable under his father's gaze.
After a long deafening silence there were arguments back and forth about their next step, and then at times silence, unnerving and uncomfortable. They couldn't shake off the thought of the baby in the blanket wrapped snuggly. What happened to her to become such a protective mother?
"Miss Beatrice, can I hold your baby?" Stephan asked with a small smile.
"Don't undo her blanket, she gets really cold easily. Here Ill tie the blanket around you, make sure to walk carefully." Beatrice nodded hesitantly. It looked as if she was only agreeing just to get suspicious eyes away from her and her baby.
"Everyone stop!" Avery urged in a quiet hiss as he made everyone quiet down further. There was a creature right outside of the gas station, a bit further from them but nonetheless it stared directly at them.
"What- what is that?" Rocky said in fear.
"It's the creature we saw on the ceiling of the house!" Casket exclaimed quietly and she nervously looked around to make sure they could escape through a back door and into a house nearby to hide and defend themselves. There were no homes that have their door intact as far as she could see past the monster.
