Not for the first time, school was the furthest thing from Eddie's mind. All day long it felt as though the hours were just ticking by until he could get back to doing important stuff— Sibuna stuff, that is. Being a part of something bigger than him was such a rush, an addiction he couldn't feed into enough. For so long he'd been going it alone, thinking about himself and maybe a handful of other people. Caring about everyone? It was new, but not unnatural, and Eddie couldn't get enough. He was going to save the world, no ifs, ands, or buts about it.

But first he had to get through the school day. And it was going to be tough trying to save his grades. He'd already had to deal with Fabian and Kira lamenting their neglected schoolwork on account of Sibuna sleuthing, but at least they had a good academic work ethic. Eddie was staring down the barrel of a few classes, but how was he expected to focus when he had to break a woman out of a mental hospital and stop his dad and teachers from waking up a kinda dead guy? It just wasn't a reasonable request.

"You're gonna be screwed when it comes time for college applications," Kira had pointed out to him the night before after she, KT, and Fabian had come back from crypt. They hadn't managed to translate the hieroglyphics right there in the dark, but Fabian reported that he'd probably be able to figure it out in a day or so. That's what he'd been trying to do while the two girls sat on his bed, giving their two cents about what it might mean. KT was braiding his sisters hair, while Kira had a both a dictionary of common hieroglyphics and a stack of school notebooks sprawled out in front of her.

Eddie had been on his own bed, staring resolutely at his chatroom screen where he was catching up with some home friends, trying to ignore them. This was one part of the club he couldn't ever truly throw himself into, and it didn't help his know-it-all roommate and sister wouldn't stop being pretentious about it together. KT was chill, though, except for the fact she kept siding with Kira instead of him.

"I'm not gonna be screwed," Eddie had protested. "I have lots of options."

"Like where?" she'd scoffed. "Hudson County?"

"Um, excuse me, Hudson County Community College is a good school," Eddie had retorted, while Fabian's eyebrows had shot up without looking away from the hieroglyphics. "Good enough."

"So you're considering it?"

Eddie knew that she was aware he didn't want her involved with any of this Osirian and Sibuna stuff, but even then she was still there, making sure he was doing what he was supposed to. Both the magical and the mundane. It was supremely irritating. "Kira, I'm a little bit busy with other things. You know— like stopping a great evil from destroying the world."

"Sure," she'd replied, tilting her head back so KT could get better access to her hair, "so you're going to help save the world only to have no opportunities in said world. Good luck."

KT had giggled at that, and he shot her a betrayed look. "Don't look at me like that, she's got a point! Even I've been getting my applications in order, and this is technically my mission! Have you at least started your essay?"

"You sound like my mother," he'd grumbled. "Yes, I've started."
