*Firehouse 51: Briefing Room*

"I reached out to all of you off-shift to let you know about my move." Matt informed, pacing around the front of the room and glancing at a clipboard in his hand every now then. "Even talked to Kidd, who's kicking ass over in Boston."

"I know she appreciated it." Kelly smirked from where he and Ana were standing near the back.

The Captain stopped walking and glanced at the floor before turning to face everyone completely.

"We were taught to perform a size-up of a scene before we move in. That's why firefighters don't run from the rig straight into burning buildings. We walk with purpose, as we gather information, right?" He pointed out, stepping forwards a bit. "And yet, we're also taught, when lives are on the line, every second counts. I wouldn't be rushing into this if I didn't think lives were on the line. I want you all to know that."

"You don't owe us an explanation, Captain." Mouch spoke up. "For Griffin and Ben. We get it."

Everyone else nodded along.

"Been talking to the CFD about a leave of absence, so I can return in a few years. Not sure they're on board. But hey, that's never stopped me before." Matt joked and the alarm went off before he could continue.

"Truck 81, Squad 3, Ambulance 61, pin-in accident, 451 West Cermak."

*Time Skip Brought to You By the Rescue Going the Same as it Does in the Episode*

Ana found Chief lurking in the hallway and decided to follow him Matt's Office. The two found the Captain on the phone with his back facing them, gazing out of the window. They got to the small room just as he hung him and turned around.

"What's up, Chief?" The blond wondered, supprised that he was even here.

"Hey. I just wanted to come. . ." The older man grinned, grabbing ahold of one of his limbs. ". . .and shake your hand in person. You know, when I first met you, I knew within a day that you were the kind of man who would put everybody else's needs in front of his own." He recalled.

"I don't know about that." Matt waved him off and sat back on his desk, crossing his arms.

He glanced at Ana in concern. The brunette had yet to say a word and she wouldn't even look at him, choosing to stare at her shoes instead.

"Yes, you do. It's one Hell of a thing you're doing for those boys." Chief pointed out.

"You'd do the same thing in my shoes." The Captain retorted.

"So, um, are you talking to the fire service over there in Oregon?" The older man inquired.

"Yep. That's what I was doing when you knocked." Matt nodded. "Got a couple leads. Turns out, with those big forest blazes, there might be some openings."

"You need a reference, you have them give me a call." Chief offered.

"I will." The blond assured, standing back up and fixing his pants.

"Have you seen Herrmann?" The older man wondered, gazing down at Ana.

"App floor, last I saw." She murmured.

"All right." He nodded, looking at Matt once again and stepping towards him with a serious expression on his face.

"I still got one more shift after this one, Chief." Matt reminded him, gently.

"Ah, right. Then I will be back for that." The older man smiled, shaking his hand again before leaving the room.

Ana went to follow but the Captain's voice held her in place.

"Hey, what's going on? You haven't even said a word to me since I told about the big move." The blond's gaze slid to the floor as a discouraging idea entered his mind. "You're not. . .mad at me, are you?"

"No Matt, never at you." She sighed, finally meeting his eyes when he looked back up in confusion "At the world. It keeps taking away the people I love."

"Hey, I am coming back. It's only for three years." He assured, moving closer to her.

The brunette growled low her in throat and threw her arms around him in a tight hug.

"It's three years too long." She sniffled, pulling back. "But I understand why you need to do it. I just wish you didn't have to."

And with that, Ana walked out of the room. Leaving Matt alone with his thoughts.

*A Few Nights Later: Right Outside of Molly's*

Herrmann was standing on the curb, seemingly waiting for something, when a white van pulled up on the side of the street and ADC Adam Perry hopped out.

"Good, you're here." The Bar Owner smiled, although it didn't seem to really reach his eyes.

"Yeah. So, uh, party bus is gonna be here in like an hour, so I just want to make sure that everything's set up and it's ready to go." The bald man explained.

"Uh, yeah, the patio is reserved, and, uh, locked and loaded with kegs coming out the yin-yang." Herrmann assured, just as a police van came rushing out in front of them and a very familiar Desk Sergeant marched out.

"Excuse me. Who's the owner of this establishment?" She demanded.

"I am." The Bar Owner nodded.

"Okay, good. Listen, I've got two dozen uniformed narco cops headed over here. We need to requisition this bar for a gang surveillance unit, so I'm gonna need access to this entire area." She informed.

"Well, ma'am-"

"Sergeant." The woman corrected.

"Sergeant, um, I'm afraid that I can't do that tonight-"

"I'm afraid you don't have a choice, pal." She snapped, glancing over at Perry. "I'm also gonna have highly-trained drug-sniffing dogs on-site, so I'm gonna need bowls of water aplenty. Who are you?"

"Uh, leaving." He stuttered out, heading back to his car with a phone pressed to his ear. "Oh, hey, Brennan, listen, man, um, I need you to tell the driver of the bus that he's gonna have to make a little detour. I'll get back to you in a minute, all right?"

The ADC drove off and Herrmann turned back to the Desk Sergeant who stuck her tounge out.

"You are a lifesaver, Trudy." He grinned as Ana jumped out of the back of Trudy's van, laughing her but off. "I was not gonna be a party to that nonsense."

"No problem." She assured with a chuckle. "Um, I gotta go find a bus to pull over. See ya."

"Good deal." Herrmann snickered.

"Bye Hun." The brunette nodded, recieving a friendly pat on the shoulder in return.

Ana moved to walk into the bar and the owner placed his hand on the door.

"Hey, don't tell anyone I said this but your drinks are on me tonight." He offered, pushing the wooden entrance open for her.

"Thanks, Chris." She smiled.

"No, thank you." He corrected with one of his own.
