*Kim Burgess' Apartment Building*
Makayla was kidnapped. The daughter of two of their Officers had been taken. That one horrible thought was the only thing bouncing around the two Sergeants minds as they rushed in with Kevin right behind them.
"Hey." Ana murmured, placing a hand on both of their shoulders once she was close enough. "I will get her back to you. . . even if it kills me."
"We know, Sarge." Adam nodded, quietly.
"Thank you." Kim whispered, feeling the brunette give her a small squeeze in return.
"All right, where are we?" Hank wondered, pushing down the flash of fear that went through him upon hearing his wife's words.
"There was two masked offenders. Both were armed. They shot our babysitter, Gabby. Looks like she tried to stop 'em. She's dead upstairs. Uh, Makayla. . ." Adam paused, gaze dropping to the floor. ". . .She's gone."
"BOLO's out on a blue Chevy van, stolen plates, silver-tinted back windows, custom spare. At this time, we know we have two offenders. We have height, weight, race." A nearby patrolman informed.
The two Voights exchanged and quick glance before making their way upstairs into Kim's apartment where they were joined by the rest of the team, Trudy included, a few minutes later.
"Two offenders force their way inside, one of them stays here with the sitter. The other goes to the bedroom. That's where the mother located the syringe. Offender one sedates Makayla, comes back out here with her unconscious; sitter sees it, fights back, takes one in the chest." Hank speculated as he paced around a bit.
"They must have used a suppressor. No one else heard the shots" Ana reasoned.
"Offenders knew their routine. Burgess and Ruzek do pizza with Makayla on Fridays. Kidnappers posed as food delivery so Gabby would open the door." Trudy explained.
"It was well planned, well executed. They knew how to get in and out of the building and exactly where they were going." Hailey pointed out.
"All right, so let's pull all PODs blocks out. Do a full cell tower dump. Wait, hold on a second. Wait up." Hank suddenly cut himself off as a new thought popped into his head. "I wanna keep this in house. That means keep your mouths shut. Okay?"
"He's right. The more people who know about this, the worse it is for Makayla." Ana agreed, looking at each individual member of the team to ensure they got her message.
"All right, keep moving." The older man commanded.
A few more minutes went by and the two Detectives were rushing up to the Sergeants with some important information.
"Guys." Jay called, approaching them with his partner at his side and phone in hand.
"Yeah?" "What's up?" They wondered.
"CPIC doesn't have a Chevy panel van tracking Makayla from her school, but we pulled an image off PODs." The male Detective revealed, showing them a photo of a middle-aged African American male. "He was sitting outside of her school for minutes. He would've seen her get in the car with Gabby."
"They could've let the kidnappers know." Hailey added.
"Wait, who?" Adam demanded, angrily, making everyone turn to see him and Kim near the couch. "Who was outside Makayla's school?"
*Bullpen: A Little While Later*
Theo, the girl's uncle, was answer. However, when questioned about her disappearance, the team quickly learned that the real kidnappers had already reached out to him for ransom money.
