*4700 Block of Pulaski*
A familiar black SUV rolled to a stop and the Intelligence Unit's two Sergeants got out. Ana, still reeling from events of the hostage situation that occurred a few days back, immediately got as close to her husband as she could. He didn't mind and wrapped a comforting arm around her in return.
"The kid did okay." Hank observed as Jay and Adam appeared on either side of the couple.
The older man was referring to Dante Torres, a new recruit the Detective had taken under his wing at Trudy's request.
"Yeah." He agreed.
"Victim's name is Hector Gutierrez. He was mannin' the register. He tried to defend the shop. It's his family's place." The Officer explained.
"The offender is Alex Sanchez. He's a low-level banger with the Villita Boyz, clique in Little Village." Jay added as they met up with the rest of the Team.
Out of the corner of her eye, Ana spotted a young man matching Dante's description standing over by the Detective's truck. The brunette wasn't getting any sort of vibe off of him and Adam had purposely stopped in a way that blocked her from his view but she still moved slightly behind Hank nonetheless.
"Took one GSW in the leg, went through and through. He's in Med getting patched up already." Kevin reported.
"Okay. Then this is open and shut. Robbery gone wrong, news at 10." The older man shrugged. "So why are we here?"
"Because of this." Hailey replied, holding up the shooter's gun. "Murder weapon is a high-end center-fire, gas-piston carbine."
"Big time gun." Kim chimed in. "Serial number popped. Weapon's part of a big batch of guns that was stolen three weeks ago, smash and grab in Indiana."
"CPD's been searching hard for him. Compstat says these weapon are fueling a spike in homicides. Four so far." The blonde finished.
"Five." Dante corrected, making everyone look over at him while he toyed with the bloody hem of his shirt.
"Five." She amended.
Hank pretended to think it over but everyone, aside from the new recruit that is, knew he was really waiting for Ana's response/signal.
"Okay, we'll take it." The older man decided after feeling her nod against his arm. "Dig in."
*District 21: Tech Office*
"All right, this is the rip of the gun three weeks ago. This is a firearms dealer, uh, just south of Gary. 2:14am, this four-door pulls up. Inside is Jeremy Watson." Jay informed while the footage played on the big screen above them. "Watson works security for the gun store. He's working alone that night. He's sitting in his car, probably to stay warm. It was cold as Hell. This guy walks up. He knocks on the window."
"Jesus." Hailey hissed, watching as the hooded figure shot the man in the car.
He signaled to someone off camera and another vehicle came speeding into view, colliding with the building before everything went dark.
"The power goes out on impact. We lose the surveillance feed." The male Detective explained, turning back to the rest of the team. "These guys made off with 90 of these carbines and 1200 Teflon-coated armored piercing rounds."
"Same brass we found at Pulaski and the other four homicides linked to these weapons." Kim added.
"These guns, they retail for about 3100, bucks a pop. Heavy machinery, lightning-fast, they shoot rounds in less than three seconds." Jay listed, gesturing to a whiteboard positioned on his right.
