*Firehouse 51: A Few Weeks Later*

Ana walked into the common room, smiling softly at her firefighting family all gathered at the long table and enjoying their breakfast. She had her hands in her pockets to hide the fact that they were gently pressed against her stomach. The visible injuries had healed so that tiny movement was all she had conceal for the time being.

"Hey." Kelly grinned, noticing the brunette's presence first and standing up.

"Hi, Sev." She smiled, accepting his hug but being unable to stop the pained grunt that escaped her lips.

The Squad Lieutenant instantly pulled back with a concerned gaze and it seemed like Matt had heard it too.

"You all right?" The Captain wondered, stepping up behind the other man.

The brunette sighed and went to explain but Chief appeared out of the hallway near the kitchen area before she could even utter a word.

"Okay, listen up." He commanded, continuing once everyone had quieted down. "I got some news. Wanted y'all to be the first to know. I've gotten a promotion. . . to Deputy District Chief."

Everyone erupted in cheers and applause. Matt, Kelly, and Herrmann all came up to give the older man a hug. Chief grew a little concerned when all Ana did was smile and nod, warmly. Everyone seemed happy for him. . . everybody except Stella.

"Wait, does this mean that- that you won't be working out of 51 anymore?" She inquired, sadly.

"Well, my office won't be here, but. . . You'll gonna see plenty of me." He assured. "And I'm leaving you all in great hands."

"We know." Kelly smirked, gently throwing an arm around his Godmother's shoulders.

Chief just grinned, widely, at them in return.

"Because I told them, that the only way I was gonna take the job. . .was if Ana got promoted too." He revealed. "Say hello to your new Battalion Chief."

The brunette's jaw dropped to the floor and she covered her mouth, tearing up a bit. The room exploded into cheers again and Matt and Kelly hugged her once more, gently this time. Ana looked up from where she had buried her face in their shoulders and sent Chief an extremely grateful look accompanied by a wide smile. The older man just chuckled, warmly, and nodded back in reply.

*Chief's Office: A Little While Later*

"So, I get the feeling there's something you wanna talk to us about." The owner guessed as he led Ana, Kelly, and Matt inside.

"Yeah, um. . ." She winced, taking a seat in the nearest chair.

The Captain sat right next to her and placed a comforting hand on her shoulder.

"Why did it hurt when Severide gave you a hug?" He prodded, gently.

The brunette sighed and pulled her jacket and shirt up a bit, revealing two circular wounds that could have only come from one thing.

"You were shot?!" Kelly growled out, angirly.

"A few weeks ago." She nodded, putting the clothing back down. "But I'm fine and the person that fired the gun has already been taken care of."

The men all breathed out a sigh of relief at that and the Lieutenant forced himself to calm down for her sake.

"You just take it easy for the time being then." Chief ordered, gently. "And no going out on calls until you're fully healed."

"Yes, sir." Ana smirked, jokingly, before quickly becoming serious. "Now, what's this I've been hearing about you and Joe almost drowning?"

"Capsied boat rescue." Kelly explained with a sigh. "But if you're fine after taking two bullets to the stomach than I am just perfect after swallowing a bit of water."

"Good." Ana smiled, pulling him in for another hug. "I'm glad you're all right."

"Me too." He murmured, returning the embrace as much as he could without hurting her.

Matt joined the hug eventually and Chief just watched the three, shaking his head fondly.

*Common Room: The Next Shift*

"You really called her?" Stella asked in shock, clearing her throat as she and Kelly made their way towards the coffee pot.

"Yep. Just hung up a few minutes ago." Kelly nodded.

"Who are we talking about?" Ana wondered, joining them with a smile.

"Jennifer." He replied, not wanting to confuse her by just saying "Mom."

"And why would we be talking about her?" The brunette prodded, gently.

Kelly glanced at the floor and wrapped an arm around his fianceé.

"Because I told her that Stella and I are engaged." He revealed, happily.

"Congratulations." Ana grinned.

"So, what'd she say?" Stella inquired.

The Lieutenant's face fell a bit and he pulled away from her.

"She did not surprise me." Kelly muttered. "Just kept. . .repeating herself about Severide men being doomed to fail at marriage."

"She's wrong." Stella pointed out. "You know that."

"You're no Benny." Ana murmured in agreement.

The bell went off before he could reply.

Squad 3, Truck 81, Engine 51, Ambulance 61, Structure Fire.

*A Few Hours Later*

Ana had heard the vehicles parking a while ago but no one had come in yet so she went out to see what the hold up was. Everyone was gathered around Chief and the brunette stopped next to her Godson, knowing the look on the older man's face meant there was something he really needed to say.

"Can I get your attention for a minute?" The older man requested. "Something I need to say."

"What, you got another promotion?" Herrmann joked.

"That was fast, Chief." Matt teased.

"Oh, no, no, no. It's about everyone here. I just want to say that I have never been prouder of this group. Not just because of the incredible job that you did out there today, but because of who you are. You always look out for each other." Chief pointed out. "51 has been blessed. Many of us been together for over 10 years. That is unheard of in the fire service, but. . . big changes may be coming. Most important thing that I want you to remember as we move into this uncertain future. . . we will always be a family. No matter where any of us go." He promised, smirking a bit. "You just make sure you clean the Hell out of all that gear before you move inside, do you hear me?"

"You got it, Chief." Matt nodded.

Ana walked up to the older man while everyone else went to do as they were told.

"Wish I could stay longer, Wally." She sighed. "Unfortunately-"

"You have a case." He nodded in understanding. "Go and be careful."

"No promises." The brunette smiled, giving him a quick hug.

She pulled back and smiled one last time before heading over to where Hank was waiting for her in their SUV, parked on the side of the road.

A/N I hope you all enjoyed! Till Monday!
