KNOX SANDOVAL
NERVOUSNESS and anxiousness is killing me as I wait outside the emergency room of the hospital. I canʼt seem to steady myself and so I sat down in the chair. This is causing me so much pain. What happened knocked me sideways.
People who passes by were looking at me but I donʼt give a f*ck. I can feel the tears running down my cheeks. I can never forgive myself if something bad happens to them.
“Knox,” Elise called out my name. My gaze was lowered and I could see her shoes. That means she is just right in front of me.
I stood up and looked her in the eye. I gave her the coldest stare she will ever receive in her entire life.
“I d-didnʼt,” her voice cracked, “expect this outcome.”
In a cold tone, holding back all of my emotions, I responded, “You planned everything.”
“Y-Yes. I just want her out of our life. I didnʼt mean to—”
This is the very first time I felt anger towards her and it was so deep that I nearly slapped her.
She covered her face. Shocked with what I did. And then, I saw how her tears streamed down her face.
“Get the hell out of here,” I said with closed eyes, trying to calm myself.
“Knox, alam kong napipilitan ka lang to divorce me kaya ko ginawa ʼto.” She held my shoulders and cupped my face. “I knew how much you love me.”
I held both of her hands and pushed her. Strong enough to create a distance between the two of us. “I filed a divorce agreement because it is what my heart wanted to do.”
“N-no, thatʼs not true!” She shook her head. “It is your Mom who told you to do so! You love the most, Knox! We both knew that! ”
“I loved you, Elise,” I corrected her. “It is all in the past.”
Her knees tremble that causes her to fall on the floor, kneeling in front of me. “H-how could you do this to me?”
I felt an extreme conscience as I witnessed her state as of the moment. But what I said was true. “What happened between Devon and I, was a night of mistakes, and I am very sorry to you for that. But let me ask you some questions…
“Where are you when I need you the most? When the company faces troubles, where are you? When I need someone to lean on, where are you? During my brotherʼs death anniversary and my birthday, where are you?
“Not only did Devon give me a son. She gave me comfort and assistance that a wife should offer her husband. I can feel that she cares for me. I feel loved when I am with her. I regretted that I just realized all of this the day you arrived. I am sorry but on that day, I felt—”
“Stop!” she cried her heart out. “P-please stop!”
She remained kneeling on the floor, so I held her shoulders and lifted her up. I sighed and caressed her shoulders. “After you sign the divorce agreement, we wonʼt see each other again.”
DEVON GARCIA
“Ano?! Magsalita ka! Anong nangyari?!”
“You miraculously survived the accident, but your baby didnʼt make it,” sabi ng doctor.
Accident…
“Devon, please calm down.”
I am waiting for the announcement to board the plane.
Napatingin ako kay Denver ng magtanong ito, “Are you sure you donʼt want us to go with you?”
I learned a lot with this experience. Every temptation comes with a great consequence. What lies ahead is never good when what you did in the first place isnʼt right. Learn to avoid temptations. But if you happen to give into it, try to correct it as soon as possible. Or else, karma will knock you sideways.
