A FEW HOURS LATER, after Eden was completely sure Brenda was to make a full recovery, she walked out of the medical tent and was immediately cornered by a nervous Jorge. "How is she?" he asked almost frantically, ever so slightly rocking on his heels as he watched the tent instead of Eden.
"She'll be up on her feet in a few hours, maybe less," she replied quickly, wanting to get across the good news as soon as possible. For his benefit. He smiled such a relief filled smile and pulled Eden into a hug she hadn't quite expected.
"If anything were to happen to her, I..." he muttered, trailing off as the thought of that situation darkened something within his mind. He paused, reconfiguring himself, before continuing, "Thank you."
She smiled softly, not quite feeling as if she needed such a thank you. It did feel nice to hear it once in a while though. "You should go in and see her."
He nodded quickly then almost disappeared into thin air, moving so quickly that Eden barely heard the swishing of the tent curtain behind him. From then, Eden looked around to try and spot anyone that she knew amongst the dozens of people she did not know. After a few too long moments where she felt far too awkward, she finally spotted the back of Frypan's head and by extension the rest of the group sat upon the rocks that looked over the campsite.
"How's your mother?" Fry asked as soon as entered his proferorals, raising his eyebrows suggestively.
"Fry, don't make me lob one of these rocks at your head," Eden instantly shot back, voice threatening enough to do the job yet not so that she actually seemed angry. Laughter spread amongst the ex-gladers and Eden paid it no mind, instead she caught Newt's eye and used her head to signal that she wanted to talk to him privately. She wasn't about to gush about the goings on within the medical tent for anyone to hear - unsurprisingly, she was a reserved person to anyone but Newt and... well Alby but she didn't have that option any longer. Newt got up and followed her, their hands slipping together when they were close enough. The guys however, ruined the peaceful atmosphere by making obscene suggestive noises and hooting. Eden wasted no time in flipping them all off before she and Newt disappeared around a corner, getting a little moment of privacy.
For a moment, they just took a second to breathe. They sat on a rock, legs hanging over the edge, as they botched looked out into the distance and watched as the sun fell from the sky. And they just talked. Simple chatter, nothing too serious and nothing too heavy. The typical chatter of the Glade that she had always held so dear in her heart. That moment was undeniably perfect. She would not change a single thing about it. Then they slowly moved towards the topic of her day and the meeting of her mother.
"She's incredible," she sighed happily, a smile pulling at her already aching cheeks. "She's a doctor and knows all the biological stuff, we talked for ages about the cure and how I came up with it. All the little details that no one else would understand. She told me about when I was younger and my birthday. I am seventeen so your guess was right. She also avoids questions like I do and I noticed that she has a tendency to rub the skin of her finger like I do. It feels like I've known her forever but I haven't... It's so peculiar."
He grinned, something all too similar to her own expression, "I'm so happy for you, love."
"And she approves of you," she added, own grin growing to such great proportions that she could physically feel the happiness radiating in the deeper depths of her stomach.
He laughed, face screwing up in that adorable way that always set butterflies throughout her stomach. "You talked about me?" he asked softly, having not expected that whatsoever.
She nodded softly, looking back out onto the sunset as to hide the blush coating the tops of her cheeks. She didn't quite know what it was there, nor why it was so potent. "She wanted to know about my life so it all just came spilling out."
