"Who sent you to school today?" asked Gu Xiang as she sat beside Chengling to have lunch.
"My father sent me, as I was late today," replied Chengling. "Why are you asking Xiang jie?"
Gu Xiang was two years senior than Chengling but as Gu Xiang was talkative and outgoing, she was known to everyone in school. Chengling was in class tenth while Gu Xiang was in class twelfth.
"He is your father! He looks so young and handsome," Gu Xiang said. It was difficult to believe that Chengling had such a young father.
"Should I take it as compliment?" Chengling asked. "I know he is handsome. He was a lady killer when he was younger."
"He is still a lady killer," Gu Xiang said. "Chengling, tell me what he is like?"
"He is like other fathers. What is there to say," said Chengling off handedly.
"Tell me what he does and what he likes," said Gu Xiang. She tried hard to sound casual.
"Okay..... He is the manager at the car showroom near the bus depot. He likes fine wine and classical music," Chengling tried to describe his father in few words.
"And what is your mother like. She must be very beautiful?" asked Gu Xiang.
"I don't have a mother," replied Chengling.
"I am sorry. Did she die or they are divorced?" Gu Xiang eagerly asked.
"I don't really know. Should I have a mother? I never heard about my mother." Chengling was a little bothered by the question about his mother. He got up without finishing his lunch.
"Chengling, sit down," Gu Xiang said. "You should finish your food. I wouldn't ask you any more questions."
"Are you sure?" asked Chengling suspiciously.
"Yes, of course," replied Gu Xiang. "It's enough for now," she thought.
Chengling sat down and continued to eat. Gu Xiang did not ask him any more questions. She just kept looking at Chengling in short intervals. She liked Chengling's father the moment she saw him. That time she was not aware who he was. But she became happier to think that if she could convince him to marry her she would get a handsome husband and a cute son. Although the son was just a couple of years younger than her, she did not mind it. She used to treat him as a little brother of herself but from the day onward she would treat him better. She would take care of him like a mother. Therefore like a good mother she made sure that Chengling finished his food.
Gu Xiang had no parents; she never got the love of her parents. Her older cousin Wen Kexing always took care of her. Her parents had a flourishing business and she was the only heir. Wen Kexing also lost his parents on an early age. He started taking care of his parents' business. After Gu Xiang's parents' accidental death he took the responsibility of her and her parents' business. He treated Gu Xiang as his daughter and never let her feel the absence of her parents.
"I want my own car." Gu Xiang placed her demand in front of Wen Kexing during the dinner.
"How old are you?" asked Wen Kexing.
"I am sixteen, going to be seventeen."
"Do you have a driving license?"
"No. I will get it later," replied Gu Xiang.
"Then what will you do with a car?" he asked.
"I just need a car gege. Please let me buy one. Please, please, please." Gu Xiang made a pitiful face and pleaded.
