After dealing with family issues and getting bullied more and more in school for all kinds of reasons, your boyfriend, Jason, decided to top it all off by dumping you for another girl.
Upset and feeling alone, you sit quietly out on your back patio hugging your knees and listening to music in your earbuds. You sit near the railing on the right, leaning against it. It was late, and cars buzzed below you at rapid speed. The wind blows your hair back as the mist hits your cheeks.
You were tired of everything, tired of having to deal with it and tired of getting treated the way you've been treated. You just wanted to disappear for a while.
As you feel a few tears stroll down your cheek, someone yanks out one of your earbuds.
You jump.
"Hey, Y/N, are you okay?" Shawn, your neighbor, asks as he leans over his railing that was touching the one you were leaning against.
You bring your hand to your chest and gasp. "Glory to the lord above, Shawn, you scared me to death."
"Sorry," He giggles.
Then he shakes his head. "Seriously, are you okay? Have you been crying?" He seemed genuinely concerned.
You wanted to say that you were fine and that he can go back inside and go to sleep, as he should, but you felt anything but okay, and you just wanted to rant to someone and have them be on your side. So you told him everything.
You feel your cheeks heating up as his eyes lock on yours the whole time, his lip quivering anytime your voice would crack. As you were reaching the end, you suddenly start crying again.
He cups your chin. "Y/N, look at me."
You didn't want to, but you do. His eyes were full of hurt for you, but not necessarily pity.
He smiles slightly. "Please don't cry. It's okay. It's okay."
Then he quickly runs inside his house from the back door and reappears seconds later with a Taylor guitar in his hand. He gracefully jumps over the railing, balancing all his weight on one arm as he holds the Taylor in the other.
You smile as he crouches down next to you.
"Little Too Much?"
"Please! I always hear you singing it in the hallway!" You say.
He laughs lightly, embarrassed. Then he starts playing, and you forget everything.
You realize then that you could listen to this boy sing nonstop for hours and never get tired of his voice.
He continues to sing and play for you, calming you. When the song finished, he wrapped his jacket around your shoulders and let you lean on him.
He pointed up at the stars. "Look, I think that's Saturn. Isn't it pretty?"
"Yes. God, this is a really starry night."
"Hey, Y/N?"
You turn to face him. "Yeah?"
"Find the star farthest out in the sky," He says quietly, his voice raspy.
You shrug. "Okay."
So you find it and point right at it. He presses his lips into a line. "Okay. Good. You know what's.. beyond that star?"
You giggle and shrug again. "No, what?"
He tucks your hair behind your ear, smiling.
"All kinds of possibility."
You bite your lip and grin.
"Oh, and balls of gas that lead straight to the sun, killing anything that stands in its way. But possibility too. To die."
You burst out laughing and slap his shoulder. "That was so cute and you ruined it."
"Sorry."
