"Y/N, doesn't Amira Renee look adorable in this outfit??" Shawn says loudly as he walks into the living room, holding your ten-month old baby girl in his arms, angling her so she was facing you.
She was dressed in a bright green dress with little watermelons on it, pink leggings underneath. Shawn's mum bought it for her a while back but she has more clothes than you and Shawn combined, so you never got around to putting it on her. She even had a matching green scrunchy headband with a pop-out watermelon on it.
"Aww, she does!" you coo, outstretching your arms as Shawn sets her down. Her big brown eyes were looking up at you, widened as she stares at your facial features and smiles, her four teeth showing.
"She looks exactly like you and nothing like me," you groan. "That's really upsetting."
"Lucky for her, I'm adorable," Shawn brags, easing down next to you on the leather couch.
You roll your eyes. "Did you get that swing set up for her outside?"
"No, sorry, I haven't gotten around to it yet."
Shawn was off work today, and it was your first day back since you had Amira. You were nervous leaving her at home with Shawn, since he had never really been alone with her, but nobody died, and they really got to bond, as you could tell.
You loved seeing Shawn play with her and tickle her and feed her. His eyes lit up with this child-like wonder, kind of like Amira's were most of the time. They had matching eyes.
"You're gonna have a swing," you baby-talk to Amira, puckering your lips as you grin. "If your dad ever gets around to setting it up!"
"Ha ha," Shawn scoffs. "For your information we had a very busy day."
"Oh, did you?"
You continue to talk to Shawn as you set Amira down on the ground, where she had recently learned to sit up on her own. You held each of her hands and lifted her arms so she could balance, and watched as she began bouncing up and down while giggling.
"I haven't given her dinner yet, but so far she's only drank two bottles of formula today, so she might be kind of hungry," Shawn explains, smiling at her.
"Do you want to eat dinner first or should I nurse?" Shawn loves to watch you breastfeed her, which you found funny. Ever since she was born, every time you breastfeed he sits there and watches intently. He finds it mind-blowing that a child can get liquid from a boob.
"Probably dinner first," Shawn shrugs. "Now that she's a big girl, she gets to eat big girl food!" Shawn crouches down so he was eye-level with her and baby-talks while clapping his hands together.
You lower her to the ground so she could sit, her arms most likely tired from you holding her up.
"Scoot back," you say to Shawn. "Maybe she'll walk to you."
"I've tried to get her to walk all day," Shawn argues, his eyes meeting yours before returning to Amira. "She just won't do it, will you baby girl?"
Amira always giggles when he talks to her, because he makes silly faces to get her to laugh. He makes her laugh a lot more than you do.
"Maybe if we both go stand over there," you point across the room. "She'll probably crawl a little and then try to stand up and walk."
"Worth a shot," Shawn shrugs, standing up and leaving Amira sitting on the carpeted living room floor as he follows you over to the entry way by the tv.
She looked confused for a moment, but then you and Shawn began to call for her and wave her over and she started to crawl towards you with a little smile on her face.
Unfortunately, she didn't stop crawling until she reached you.
"Well, that's enough trying for today," you sigh. "She'll walk eventually."
"I'm gonna go set up that swing," Shawn says, walking over towards the back door. You watch him walk away, your eyes leaving Amira for a single second before Shawn reaches the door leading to the backyard.
The second you look back down, you were shocked to see Amira standing to her feet, taking slow, big steps, trying to follow Shawn.
"Oh my god!" you scream, your eyes widening.
"What?" Shawn spins around. They second he sees Amira, he gasps, a gigantic grin spreading across his face.
She falls right after that, but she took a good three steps.
"Amira!!" Shawn swoops her up with his strong arms, spinning her around and giving her little baby high-fives. "You did it sweet girl! Dad is very proud of you!"
"So is Momma," you plant a kiss on her cute little nose, turning to Shawn and widening your eyes. "Our baby can walk?"
He leans over and kisses your forehead, still keeping a tight grip on Amira.
"I love you, Y/N," he says quietly but quickly under his breath.
"I have to go call the grandparents, they're going to freak!" you exclaim, patting his shoulder to let him know you love him too, before walking out of the living room.
