Two days later,
"What's the case?" I ask the head nurse, dressing into the OT dress.
"It's the kid, 4 years old referred to you by Dr. Avyuktha, the Pediatrician. It's Haemorrhage. He hit his head in the bathroom accidentally. Haemoglobin is falling rapidly and it's just 4 now, " she reads out.
I nod, slipping my hands into the gloves. "Prepare the operation theatre. It's an emergency," I order and walk out of my cabin towards the O.T.
I find Avyuktha consoling the kid's parents who are crying miserably. She looks at me and nods, "He is the doctor who is gonna treat your son. He will take care of everything. Trust in us," She says.
They look at me crying, "I will put my best, Ma'am and Sir. Just have faith in my potential."
They nod crying, "But ma'am and Sir, every surgery has side effects. After this, your son might not be the same as you were told. He may lose his ability to walk, talk or eat. He may remain like a kid forever without any brain development. He may have seizures frequently or he may have multiple problems. I know you guys have already signed the papers, but once again, are you both ready for this?"
"We just want our son back," they sob miserably. I nod.
"Sir, everything is ready," the head nurse says and I walk inside. Avyuktha doesn't look at me even once.

The operation went successful and the couple is happy. I haven't seen that pure smile ever even when a parent sees their kid for the first time. They were happy because their son fought death. They were proud of their son for being mentally strong making this operation successful.I am in my cabin now changed into my scrubs. I start to study as I'm free till the evening today.
Suddenly, my door opens revealing Mom. I smile at her.
"Did you have lunch?" she asks. I shake my head and bury my face in the books again. "You seem to make yourself more occupied than you really are."
She sits on the chair in front of me and smiles, "It's like you are running away but not like you want to," she looks down at her palms and smiles sadly, "So Avyuktha."
I go stiff and I hold my palms together, "Shall we have lunch? Did Dad have it?"
"Okay fine, I know you won't listen to me ever," she says and stands up, "She is resigning."
My head snaps to her and a lump forms in my throat. The back of my eyes burns and my hands shiver. I try to grab my bottle but it slips from my hands.
Mom reaches me and picks up the bottle. She undoes the cap and makes me drink water.
I close my eyes.
"What are you both doing to yourselves? Shall I talk to Avi's parents?" she suggests.
