"The operation went successful," the nurse tells to the patient's attendees as I walk out.
I go to my cabin and look at Avyuktha's cabin but she isn't there. She might be on rounds. I sit on the chair and close my eyes.
The tiredness washes over my face after 12 hours of long surgery. Mom walks in with a smile.
"Another successful one," she says and removes my gloves. "You are hurting yourself."
I stay silent. I just close my eyes and take a deep breath.
"Doctor?" the nurse says walking in. I open my eyes and look at her.
"There's another surgery in an hour. Shall we prepare the O.T.?" she asks.
Mom looks at her angrily, "He has come now just now. He had been performing surgeries for 48 hours continuously. Let him rest-"
I cut off mom, "Prepare the O.T. room. I'll be there." The nurse nods and walks out.
"What the fuck, Shre?" mom yells. "Have you gone mad? Don't you rest? Look at you, your eyes became red and you are barely able to stand."
"Mom, please," I say, "It's my profession."
"Stop this shit, Shre," she yells again, "I have been in this profession for years but I never made myself like you."
"Mom, I need Avyuktha. Those two months, especially, these two days with her were like the twenty years I lost living my life," I yell, "I can't resist the pull she has on me. She is ignoring me and I can't withstand this. I can't either force her or throw myself on her. I need a distraction."
"Shre, do you want me to talk to her?" she asks with tears.
I sigh. "Mom, I don't want her to come to me because someone told her what she should feel."
"I need to get ready. Please, leave me" I say and walk to the washroom.
