"Shre, stop crying," Chey says, hugging me.I snuggle into him, hugging his arms, "I don't know what's happening around me!" I sob palming my face, "I just don't want anything except for my wife."
"Stop it, man! Stop making yourself weak," Sam rubs my back.
"Shre," Mom walks out from the ward Yuktha is in. I immediately run to her and hug her tightly.
"I am scared, Mom," I cry in her embrace, "Please tell me she is fine."
She leans backward, not breaking the hug, to look at me. Cupping my face, she looks at me with teary eyes, "Shre, Avi is safe," she kisses my forehead, "Until you give up on your baby."
"No!" I scream, crying. "No, Mom. I can't give up on our baby. If I do that she will never forgive me."
Mom looks at Avyuktha's parents and turns to me, "Beta, if she bears the baby, we may not save her. Someday or the other she will have a miscarriage and we can't save her either then," She holds my hand and presses her lips on it, "Shre, even if you save the baby now, we can't guarantee the baby's life and if we let her carry the baby, she will die," she cries and looks at Avyuktha's parents, "Think, Muktha."
How can I kill my baby my wife is already in love with? How the hell can I snatch something for my wife that she loves? But I can't risk her life! She will be ready to even give up her life for our baby but does our baby deserve a life without a mother?
"Can-can I talk to her?" I whisper.
"She is asleep."
"I will be beside her for some time," I look at her, pleading, "Please, Mom."
She nods. I run inside and find the love of my life unconscious on the bed. As I walk to her, I find her lean figure repressed in the bed. I sit beside her and kiss her forehead.
"Please, don't leave me," I sob, "I can't live without you."
I hold her hand and make her run her palm through my hair, "What do you want me to do? I love you so much that this baby will never matter to me neither now nor ever if it kills you! But if your love and happiness are what our baby is, I can do everything for you," I whisper and kiss the centre of her palm, "Tell me, Yuktha, what should I do now? Do you think I will live without you? If anything happens to you, that will be the end of me. And does our baby deserve to have a life without parents?"
She moves her eyelids and opens them softly. "Shreyan," she mumbles. "I was bleeding heavily. More than the other day. It was not stopping. Is our daughter safe?" I shut my eyes sobbing. "Baby, please don't scare me. Is she safe?"
She sits up slowly and puts her arms around my neck, "I hate you," she nuzzles her nose in my beard cheek, "But I still find my peace in you," she smiles innocently and I know. I can't lose her. "And I hate myself more for it."
