Chapter 48 Questions

"Okay, let's try this one." Shinsou reached over the edge of his bed and picked up another book. It was bright and colorful with puppies chasing each other on the cover. It was one of the children's books that he and Izu had gotten as gifts from the girls. Shinsou went back to the head of the bed and sat down. He pulled Denki back into his lap and pulled the bedsheet back up. They were in Shinsou's bedroom, cuddling in his bed. Denki was resting against Shinsou's bare chest and they were going through some books to try and improve his reading and speech.

The apartment wasn't messy, but it wasn't clean. While all his uniforms were hanging in the closet, nice and tidy, there were a lot of casual clothes draped on chairs or on the floor. The lighting was usually kept low for the drowsy alpha, but he had the lights brighter for Denki now and it made him see how poorly he'd been maintaining his home. Shinsou only hoped Denki wasn't embarrassed, he would work on cleaning it up so that they could share it as a proper home.

"So," Shinsou open the book to the first page. He slid his hand up the back of the oversized shirt he had given Denki to wear and rubbed the boy's back. "Page 1... Micky was a very happy puppy." He pointed at each word as he said them. He looked at Denki and smiled. "Now you try."

"M-Micky was a v-very happy puppy." Denki repeated as he spoke along side Shinsou's finger. The omega had been doing well with his reading, though he did forget some words. Shinsou made it his duty to read each sentence before letting Denki try. He knew his new lover wasn't dumb but he also knew he wasn't the brightest.

"He loved to play outside." Shinsou said pointing to each word. "Now you."

"He loved to play outside." Denki smiled as Shinsou gave him another kiss for a perfect sentence.

"Page 2. Try the first one, these are words you've seen before" Shinsou said as he pointed to the first word on the turned page.

"Micky was a s-silly puppy h-he...." Denki said only going through half of the sentence.

"You're doing great," Shinsou said with a grin. "You're doing so good. I'm so proud of you." He nuzzled Denki's cheek. He wanted to give the boy as much encouragement and positive reinforcement as he could. He never chided him or made any rude or insulting comment if he missed a word. He helped Denki say it and encouraged him to try again. Shinsou truly was proud of the boy.

"He... l-liked to..." Denki kept trying, happy to have his alpha supporting him. "Pl...play... play?" He got a nod of approval from Shinsou. "...in the... m-mood."

Shinsou smiled and gave Denki a hug. "You're doing good. This word is mud. Can you say mud with me?"

"M-mud" Denki repeated to earn another kiss for a right answer. The omega was so comfortable with Shinsou. He always felt like he was spoken to like a student and not a child. Well, that was other than with Momo, but he always felt like she was his mother and not a teacher. "Micky w-was a happy puppy. H-his o-o...owa-ner was g-graht-full?"

"The words are owner and grateful" Shinsou corrected. The alpha gave his lover a cookie to chew on which he gladly took. "Were you happy when I gave you the cookie?"

"Yes I am happy" Denki said talking a bit better.

"That's what grateful means" Shinsou said knowing that Denki knew what an owner was but just never read the word.

"His owner was grateful to h-have him." Denki said correcrly.

"Excellent," Shinsou smiled and hugged Denki tight to his chest and rubbed the boy's back. "You're doing so good bumblebee. So good." Shinsou kissed Denki on the cheek over and over. "You read so well. I'm so proud of you."
