*Connor's POV*
What- What happened? Why is it so dark and cold? Connor now moving around trying to find some source of setting.
Where am I?!
"Hello Connor." A soft feminine but sinister voice called out to him.
Immediately he recognized it, he'd know that voice anywhere. "A- Amanda?" Panic quickly sets in through him; led flashing red in the pitch black.
Suddenly the scene around him turns into something more scarily familiar.
Zen Garden
Looking around rapidly he sees the mentor figure he once trusted too much begin approaching him slowly.
"It'd been rather difficult to get back here, but now that I am, we can quickly resume where we left off." She smugly smiles towards him voice calm and collected as always.
"You won't resume control of me! You won't! I- I won't let you!" Connor yells back.
"Don't act like you didn't see this coming Connor. Now deal with Lieutenant Anderson and we can proceed."
"N- No! NO I won't! You- you can't make me! I'll fight with everything I have! You'll have to kill me before I'd ever hurt him!!" His voice shakes with fear and anger.
Suddenly he's woken up to find Hank shaking him and calling his name. It's all muffled under the sounds of screaming..
Connor quickly jumps up; tears falling down his cheeks. He's not able to process anything around him except Hank's voice.
"Connor! Connor you're okay.. I'm right here alright! You're safe. You have to calm down or you're going to self destruct!" His reassuring words cut through all the panic as Connor's led began to shift from a steady dark red to a flashing yellow. Hank grabs the android and pulls him in his arms tightly, taking a blanket to wrap around him. "I'm here Connor. Nobody else, just me and Sumo." The still whimpering android's led slowly reverted back to a soft blue as Hank continued to hold him and comfort him; something he's definitely not used to but at that moment it didn't matter to him. All that mattered was Connor felt safe.
*Hank's POV*
<This takes places while Connor was sleeping so before and up to the nightmare>
Sitting down to watch the tv Sumo jumped up in my lap to enjoy it with me. I sat there staring at him for a while and sighed. I wish Cole had gotten to know you longer. It was the one thing he'd constantly beg me for and.. I waited too long to give him. Sumo nudged Hank's hand in attempts to cheer him up; sensing his owners sadness. Hank chuckled, "Good boy Sumo. Do you miss him too?" Hank shook his head and got up. "I wanna fucking drink! Shit Connor how did you get so good at hiding things in my own goddamn house?" Hank quickly gives up the search and sits back down on the couch; "At this point I'm just gonna have to buy some more." <Now Hank that's literally defeating the point>
Shit I can't believe I cried in front of Connor. I literally never cry. No point in it; one day you just accept life is shit. But.. ever since I met him it doesn't feel so bad to be here. He gives me a sense of purpose I never thought I'd feel again after Cole.. and since then I can't seem to get him off my mind. I'm always concerned for his wellbeing and how he's feeling, or what he's thinking. Earlier with Gavin I couldn't help but worry if there's a time I'm not there for him what could happen. I don't think Gavin will actually do shit but there's many more that think just like him that will. And yeah I get he's a strong durable machine capable of so much more than us but I can't help but want to protect him. He won't even tell me what all was said between them. Fucking why not? What could he say that could possibly be that damaging for Connor not to wanna talk about? He runs his hands through his hair. Why do I even care so fucking much? He gets up irritated. Shit I can't do this no more; I'm going to get a drink.
Hank starts to walk towards the door but suddenly he hears loud screams coming from the bedroom Connor now stayed in. "Shit! Connor!!" He ran back to the door slinging it open and rushing over to the androids side. "Hey kid! Hey, hey its okay calm down." He's shaking violently and he's not responding but his led is flashing red so he's still functioning. Hank tries to lay his hand under Connor's head and hold him up but the extremely strong unconscious android was moving around too much. "Connor! Come on Con I'm right here! You have to calm down! Please don't hurt yourself!" Hank pleads but feels himself pushed away as the android continues to toss himself around in the bed in fear. Hank grips Connor's arms as tightly as he can shaking him softly trying to wake him up, "Connor!" He watches Connor's eyes finally open and tears immediately building up in his vision. "Fuck Connor you're okay.. I'm right here alright! You're safe. You have to calm down or you're going to self destruct." Trying his hardest to guide and not to overwhelm Connor more he grabs him and caresses the android softly to comfort him. Shit I'm not any good at this. Hm his light went to blue though that means he's stable again. LED shit! I read the manual for a reason and I still forget the name of it. He wraps Connor in an old blanket of Cole's that was still on the bed and holds him tighter.
Goddammit he scared me.
~
"Lieutenant! I'm so sorry!" The android whimpers holding Hank's shirt tightly burying his face. "I- I can't- I can't I don't- I don't want to." Connor lets go of him and backs away hastily. "Please Hank stay away from me. I'm no good for you! I'll only bring you more harm than good and I just can't do that! Everything I want to do is for you and I just can't-"
"Connor what the fuck are you on about? Stop talking like that!"
"No no you don't understand I don't want to hurt you! Amanda she'll-"
"She's not here Connor. It was a nightmare, just a very bad dream. You haven't hurt anybody. You won't hurt anybody. I know you won't okay? Now just come back over here and talk to me." He pats the bed beside him.
Connor sighs and takes a seat beside Hank, "I keep having these nightmares as you call them they all start and end the same way but this one just felt more.. real. I felt like I was there with all my sentience but I wasn't at the same time.. I was no longer in control of myself anymore a-and she just wanted me to-" Ashamed he looks at Hank who is listening without judgement. "I don't want to put you in danger Hank.."
"You aren't and you won't Connor." Hank shakes his head trying to reassure the petrified machine.
"Please promise me something Lieutenant?.."
"Yes? What is it Connor?"
"If she ever comes back... promise me, promise me you will not hesitate to kill me. If you have to." He didn't really want to add that last part, he wanted Hank to do it no matter what; if it meant he was safe.
"Jesus Christ, Connor the fuck! No I'm not promising that! I'm not worrying about that because it'll never happen okay so just shut up with all that nonsense." Hank sighs trying to not sound upset. "Listen Con, I understand you're scared, I have nightmares a lot too and they can feel so real and terrifying but they are only bad dreams, nothing more. He takes his hand and lays Connor's head on his shoulder.
"She can't hurt you anymore and I promise I won't let anybody control you ever again Connor."
*Connor's POV*
Connor stays there for a minute feeling Hank lay his head on him too. He doesn't want to move but it's not long before his temperature starts rising to an extreme level he can't ignore and he has to pull away before he sends himself into a shutdown.
He stares at Hank and begins to hear his thirium pump rapidly through his ears. Warnings start flashing again and again
⚠️ WARNING: Heat System Temperature- Rising
⚠️ WARNING: Error Detected-Unknown
⚠️ WARNING: Error Detected-Unknown
⚠️ WARNING: Thirium Pump Malfunction- Overactive activity
Connor didn't care anymore though, he just wanted to be close to Hank right now. He had a habit of making him feel better and right now he felt scared; he didn't know what else to do. He puts his hands on Lieutenant Anderson's face softly and pulls it close, feeling Hank slightly gasp before pressing his forehead against his.
*Hank's POV*
Hank felt himself lose his breath as he sees the android getting closer to his face but quickly realizes as Connor presses his head against him softly and whimpers before grabbing Hank burying his face in his neck. Unsure of how to respond he just sits there holding Connor and rubbing his back softly. Was he about to-? Fuck! Why would he? He wasn't, I'm just thinking too much about it. Connor.. he would- he'd never want to be with someone like me.. Hank pauses. And I'd never want to be with someone like him! He exclaims trying to convince himself of something. Fuck... then why was I okay with it? Why did I want- no no fucking just shut up. I can't deal with this shit right now. In as much denial as possible Hank tries to drown out his thoughts. But his next idea was not going to help that case much as he hears Connor continue to sob quietly. "Alright Con that's it, follow me."
He lets go and gets up motioning for Connor to follow him. The android gets up, wiping his eyes trying to stop all the tears. Hank leads them to his bedroom and sits down on his bed, "Come on, you're sleeping with me tonight."
Connor giggles slightly trying to elevate his mood, "Shouldn't I be taking you on a date first Lieutenant?" He questions quietly and smirks. "Ah fuckin- shut up Connor and get in the bed!" Hank states trying to contain his laugh and blushing red cheeks. Connor leaves to change into a blue t-shirt and shorts Hank bought him before laying down next to his friend. He looks at Hank who already has his eyes closed and begins to tear up again. What did I do to deserve a chance at this? I couldn't imagine my life where I'm not here right now with him and I- I don't want to. I- I'm so happy here with you.. he softly sniffles and shuts his eyes tight trying to minimize the tears. He suddenly feels a big rough object lay softly on the side on his cheek. Opening his blurry eyes he sees Hank holding his face. The sight alone calms him immediately as his led returns to a stable blue as he rubs his face against Hank's hand, slowly drifting into a dormant state once again. Hank opens his eyes one last time to see the android with a few tears still falling down his face as he wipes them away and smiles softly, closing his eyes again. His deep voice radiates to the android across from him. "Goodnight Connor."
"Goodnight.. Hank."
