Chapter 23: Aggression

7:00 am
Opening his eyes to a blurred bright room Hank tried to look and see if Connor was still at the end of his bed. As his eyes adjusted, he saw he wasn't there and went to sit up completely until he felt a tight grip around him. Looking over slowly, he noticed Connor was snuggled up against his back.
"Fuckin android." He mumbled softly and smiled. Grabbing his phone to look at the time, it was only 7:02. He breathed out and went to lay down completely, making Connor's arm fall to his side. Slowly turning on his back he was happy he didn't wake him up and sighed as he stared at him.
Even if he's not really sleeping, he looks so.. peaceful. Hank softly pulled Connor closer to him and Connor wrapped himself around Hank instinctively, which made him blush. As Connor's head rested on his chest; Hank relaxes into the moment laying his hand on Connor's head as he slowly drifts to sleep again.

9:00 am
*Connor's POV*
Waking up that morning Connor blushed softly as he realized he had snuggled closely to Hank and it wasn't just a dream. Getting up slowly, he closes the door behind him and makes his way into the kitchen where Sumo got up to greet him.
"Good morning Sumo!" He said cheerfully as he got down to his level to hug and pet him. "You hungry boy?" He watched Sumo get more excited as he looked for his bag of food. "Shit we must be out."

"I'll be back Sumo. I'm going to go to the store." Hank needed groceries anyways. He thought to himself as he looked at the food Hank didn't get to eat. He placed it in the microwave and wrote Hank a note reading,
Good morning Hank, I hope you slept well and don't worry I'll be back soon! I went to get Sumo and you food. If you can't wait until I get back for breakfast, your food is in the microwave. ♡
Connor went and changed into his uniform then grabbed Hank's keys to drive to the closest store. Since he knew Hank wasn't super particular with food he figured it'd be easy to find things he'd like. As he neared the grocery store he noticed there was a protest happening close by with both humans and androids arguing on both sides. His LED flashed yellow as he drove past it and parked the car. Hearing the distant yelling he tried to just keep his head down and get in and out.
I'm not afraid of them. He thinks to himself as he walks into the store; seeing more people walking around. I think they are more afraid of us honestly, but I am afraid of how me getting damaged would affect Hank.
He sighed trying not to worry about it as he walked down the aisles. There was so much of everything in one place; it felt a bit overwhelming to look at it all. As he picked things out he reminded himself that Hank seemed to like anything he makes him, which made him feel better. Lastly he got Sumo's food and treats and went one of the self checkout lines.
As he waited he could feel a lot of people staring at him which usually never bothered him but for some reason it was increasingly annoying today. It's nothing when we're the ones doing it for you mindlessly but now when we have a choice to.. it's a problem.
Moving up and scanning the items he tried to just ignore it and give benefit of the doubt. Bagging everything, he walked out the doors and to Hank's car putting everything in. He hears some yelling getting louder and turns to see an VH500 android worker getting assaulted by some stray protesters. He runs over to intervene and needs to make a quick decision.

Running in front of her he deflects the rest of the attacks.
"What the fuck are you doing?! Move it and get the fuck out of here before I light you both on fire." He flicked a lighter in his hand.
Connor held his hands up and remained calm. "Look there's no need to do that. I'm a detective at the DPD, you're just going to make the situation worse for yourself." He slowly opens his jacket to show his gun and temporary badge.
"Go, go inside now." He whispers to the android hiding behind him and watches her run inside the store.
The man moves forward and tries to punch him to which Connor dodges causing his hand to connect with the concrete wall. "Fuck! Fucking god I'll kill you stupid piece of plastic!" He lunges at Connor who's about to move before some people in the crowd grab him and pull him down. The man kicks Connor twice before two police officers that were called arrived.
"Hey! Hey knock it off! Everybody move back! Now!" One of the cops pulled the man back, "Let go of me, he started it! Just look at my fucking hand!" The other cop had his gun trained on the crowd to let the android go and disperse. "Connor?" Chris looked at Tina as she put the man in handcuffs. Chris helped Connor up, "What happened here?" Connor's led went from red to yellow. "He was assaulting a VH500 android that works here. I'm not sure why I just intervened. I told her to go inside so she would be safer. If you need to speak to her.. just be gentle." Connor knew how to handle situations like these but other androids didn't and he couldn't imagine how scared she was.
"Do you need me to call Hank?" Chris offered. "No! No I'll be alright I just need to get home. We'll see you both at work later." Chris shook his head at the ordeal as Tina approached them. "We're going to need your statement when you get to work Connor. I apologize we weren't here sooner." Connor appreciated some of his coworkers at least trying to get along with him even though he could tell how uncomfortable he still made them.
"Thank you Chris and Officer Chen. Just make sure she's okay." He motions to the store building and walks back to the car. As he gets in he sees in the rearview mirror some of his machinery was showing where he had been kicked in the side of his face. Connor sighed and covered it with his human skin not wanting to worry Hank for no reason. It was about 10 am when he got home as he grabbed all the groceries and took them inside to put up. Noticing Hank was still asleep he tried to be quiet as he proceeded to fill Sumo's bowls and make breakfast.
After he finished, he put the food on the table and threw away his note. Checking the time it was about 10:20 so he knew Hank would be waking up soon. He continued to think about what had happened while he cleaned but ultimately knew he'd made the best decision he could have and just hoped the worker was okay.

Author's Note
Hi everyone! I know this story is rather a slow burn than anything I hope that's something everyone is still enjoying. I wanted to take this chapter just to show the tension still between humans and androids but the next chapter has a lot more coming with Matt and exploring his and Connor's blossoming relationship. Maybe that's a good thing maybe it's a bad but we'll surely keep finding out. Also more Simarkus hopefully cause I miss them! Any feedback is so appreciated and thank you for reading💓
