N and Uzi fluff with a dash of angst.

Uzi sat in an old rickety building atop an old rickety swivel chair. Rain poured down outside; it's pattern was one not computable to her sensors. It agitated her. Things were already bothering her, but then here came this storm.

The storm was seemingly calming to N for the most part. He still jumped at the sudden sound of thunder though. He was curled up in a nest of blankets he had made for himself soon after they had left the colony. His yellow eyes glowed and he chirped softly with little cooing noises mixed in.

Uzi's progress on the pod was being set back by this rain, and that in it of itself was enough to upset her. Uzi threw her head back, but stifled a groan for N's sake. Her head hit the back of the swivel chair and she winced.

Uzi kicked off the ground with her platform boots, making the chair spin. She had hoped the spinning would distract her, but it only made things worse. There was an anxious and fidgety feeling deep inside her programming making her sick. At this point, she had run several virus scans, but no virus was to be found.

A frown formed on Uzi's robotic face and her eyebrows creased unhappily. She wondered why she felt so hollow. Uzi pulled her knees to her chest in the chair and placed her chin atop her knees.

The chair creaked and the sick feeling grew. She had been having a perfectly fine day otherwise, but one setback and now every little thing seemed to set her off. She was on the verge of breaking down, and she certainly didn't want to do that in front of N.

N hummed some happy sounding song with his face in the blankets and Uzi closed her eyes with a deep breath. Her head was cluttered and her thoughts resembled the scribbles of a young child. The deep, hollow, and dreadful feeling grew.

She took her beanie off and held it to her chest with one hand as she worked the other through her hair. Moving made things better for Uzi. N lifted his head and seemed to sense something off in Uzi.

"Would you want to lay down with me?" N asked, trying to cheer her up. Uzi felt herself nodding reluctantly. As she got out of the swivel chair it squeaked and the sound made Uzi gag involuntary.

She trudged over to N and flopped down beside him facing the ceiling. N cuddled up to her side, and she placed her hand on his back. He was curled up similar to a cat.

Thunder resounded through the building with a sharp metallic sound and Uzi felt herself curl into a ball on her side. She held N tightly, trembling. Who was she to put so much trust into a born killer though? Didn't she know better?

Her sensors must not have been working right, because when N placed a hand on her head and another on her back, she cried into his shirt.

N ran his hands through her hair. The repetitive motions of his hands were like the calm ripples of a puddle to Uzi. She felt her breathing slow and N held her tighter as her tears dried.

He hummed into her hair, and began to whisper words whipped away by the hurricane of Uzi's mind. All Uzi knew was the sound of his voice was keeping her anchored.

She held him close and he placed a gentle kiss on the top of her head. "Don't worry now, things are going to be okay. I'm here for you." Her sensors finally heard N say. She smiled and her grip turned from desperate to thankful.

He placed a kiss atop her head gently. "I'll protect you."

And then when the thunder resounded again, neither were scared or upset. They were fast asleep in each other's arms. N had replaced the hollow anxiety with love and compassion. The storm no longer bothered Uzi, because she could always get work done another day. For now she wanted to spend time with N. She felt her worries melt and her tense posture soon faded.

She was loved here. No noise would bring her down.
