Looking back, N knew what was going on. He knew what was happening to him.
But he had pretended it was normal all those years.
The feeling of weight crushing him at a pinpoint on his chest was something he relived often. He was never sure if her actual weight hurt more, or if the weight of her words hurt more. Because her words hurt. He found then in his head almost as often as he pound the pain in his chest -from where she'd usually kick him- cone back.
That was it.
In the pod with Uzi while his optical sensors were down, he'd called J something positive and the words fell from his mouth like filth. Dirty lies. The guilt and fear bubbled up his throat to follow the words, but he held it back. Some days it made him want to cry, and other days it made him want to vomit until the sick guilt and uselessness had left his stupid body.
"Worthless." The word rang loud in his head, laughter following.
He glared at J across the clearing. He was finally rebelling against her. He didn't have to let her hit him anymore. He could fight back, and he'd be the good guy for doing so.
Uzi was charging across the clearing at V, so N braced himself in a fighting stance. J crossed her arms in turn, looking amused. I. t felt like his circuitry was on fire, and he wanted to make her hurt like how she had hurt him. He wanted to wipe the amusement off her face.
He wanted vengeance.
"You seriously think you van fight me and win?" J scoffed.
N's eye twitched and he opted to walk across the clearing rather than charge at her. He sifted through his weaponry in his head, wondering what would be the best option for this fight.
He said nothing, only making unblinking eye contact with J. His mouth was twisted into a smile, unlike anything that had ever graced his face. This smile was void of innocence, and fueled by the hunger for pain.
He shut down his hunting program with a force stop. When disassembly drones went hunting, they used a hunting program; the hunting program gave them the trademark 'X' a nd took away any feeling if guilt, but it also made the memories of the murder hazy in the guilt removal process. He wanted to savour and remember ripping J apart.
N's grin was split open by angry laughter parting his lips. J looked afraid for the first time N had ever seen. N laughed louder, charging across the clearing finally. He chose chainsaws, and they roared loudly where his hands would have been.
"N! The company will dismantle you for this, N! Stop right there!" J screeched, backing up in a panic and trying to get a weapon out.
N shrugged, too fueled by the painful memories to care. "Am I still worthless? Am I still terrible?" N yelled, spit foaming at the corners of his mouth. "Would you have killed me if things hadn't turned out this way?"
J's eyes were hollow and fearful. "I only said any of that to motivate you!" J threw her hands up in defense.
N chuckled to herself. It was too late for weak defenses.
The sound of metal sawing through metal with mechanical scraping resounded through the clearing. J made a noise between a gurgle of pain and a scream of terror. The noise made N's mind tingle in satisfaction. Revenge tasted sweet, and he hoped J liked the taste of her own medicine.
Oil splattered the floor and metal fell off the stump of J's wrist in clumps. She stared in horror, silent. N cackled, the laughter electrifying the air and adding to the spark in his eyes.
"Look who's useless now! Look who's terrible now!" N growled, the sick smile still dominating his face. N leaned forward, whispering to J. "You. You're useless and terrible."
N rocked back on the heels of his feet, watching J try to scramble away. He loved a chase. N giggled, changing his chainsaws for clawed hands. He surged forward, grabbing J's tail and yanking her backwards so she tripped onto her back.
N stepped on her chest, digging his heel into her ribs. "I'm going to kill you myself, even if the company would scrap me for it." His face was deadpan. A small smile tugged at the corners of his lips. "How do you feel, J?"
N frowned, noticing there was silence in response to his question. He needed to make her pay. He needed to set things right. Yet, she was quiet. N growled gutterally, digging his heel further into his ribs and finding pleasure in the cries of pain he received.
J's visor was tear stained. Her hair was a mess. Her outfit and body were stained with her own oil. He did this. Good. This was retribution. This was salvation. This was revenge.
N knee led down, shoving his knee into her chest instead of his foot and taking note of her wheezes. "You're pathetic." He snarled. "You were supposed to lead us." His flawed index finger traced over her jawline and he gave her a pout of mock pity.
"Look at you now." He grabbed her jaw suddenly and tightly, feeling something click under his hand. "Now you're just a bully being put into her place." He sighed.
"I'm sorry..." The broken words from the breaking girl beneath him lit the fire in his body again.
N threw his head back, laughing. "You're sorry? After years of the name calling, the screaming, the kicking, the hitting, the belittle ment, the abuse... that's all you have to say?" He searched her face and worked his jaw when he saw she looked truthful.
No.
"Not good enough." N cooed, grabbing her by the neck and digging his class into her soft metal. Dark oil trickled down his hand and he watched the life fade from her eyes as she feebly attempted to push him off with her good hand. "Sorry won't fix it " He snapped, his jaw tense.
N licked the excess oil from his clawed hands. It tasted like a reward.
N kicked J's lifeless body over and over, denting the metal beyond repair. He pocketed J's amputated hand, seeing it as a trophy.
"I won." He giggled to himself.
A distant scream. N looked over to see V's head get blown off by his new friend smiled. This was a new chapter for his life! He could start over.
Uzi had never called him useless or terrible. That was a great start for him. He would ask that she keep V alive, though. Maybe he could trade J's hand for V once her head regenerated?
N jogged over and fist bumped Uzi's outstretched fist.
"Holy hell, that was amazing!" Uzi's laughed, throwing her arms in the air in excitement. "You were amazing."
N felt bubbly and smiled. This time it wasn't an insane smile. It was heartfelt, but still different from usual. This was genuine happiness, not just positivity. Looks like revenge came with a side bonus. Maybe... He didn't need V after all?
