Chapter 17- That Night

Daniel's POV
What just happened?
Lexi goes over to her friends for 2 minutes and disappears. I go to find her and see her sucking faces with the guy that was at her house earlier.

I came to California to try and get her back home, not see her with another guy.

"What the??"

Lexi got out of her trance and looked at me. "Oh. Hey." Was all she could say. "You remember Ross from earlier today."

"Yeah." I said angrily. I gave Ross a disgusting look then looked back to Lexi.

"Can I talk to you privately for a second?" I said to Lexi.

She whispered something to Ross then nodded. We walked off into a quiet place. She didn't look happy with me anymore. I didn't do anything wrong. We've been known each other longer than they have, so it's only fair..

Lexi's POV
Ross and I just had our first real kiss. It meant something to me, and I'm sure it did to him as well. As Ross and I were having our moment, Daniel came over and pulled me away from him. As much as I love Daniel, he can be annoying and overprotective sometimes.

Daniel asked to talk to me somewhere quiet. I reassured Ross nothing was going to happen and followed Daniel to another room.

"I need to know now, Lexi."

"Know what?" I asked, very confused.

"Where you and I stand."

"What do you mean? We've been best friends since kindergarten. You're like a brother to me. Nothing is going to change that."

"So I have no chance of bringing you back home?" He asked me. I had no idea it was even an option...

"I can't Daniel. I'm happy here. I met new friends--"

"You mean Ross?" He cut me off. "I don't trust him, Lexi. He's a piece of trash and it's going to end in you crying."

"Daniel, stop it. It's not like that. You don't even know him." I argued.

"I don't associate with cocky, rude, pieces of trash."

"What has gotten into you Daniel? Everything you just said is so far from the truth. I think you need to leave." I can't believe he said those things about Ross. He doesn't even know him.

"Gladly." He said, and stormed out. He walked right past Ross and out of the club.

My eyes started to tear up as I walked back into the blaring music and dancing people. When I saw Ross start to walk towards me I started crying. Hard.

I ran to him and just hugged him.

"It's going to be okay. Come on, do you want to leave?" Ross asked me. I nodded my head. We walked over to Rydel and Ross told her where we were going.

Ross hailed a cab, and they showed up immediately. We sat in the back and he just comforted me until I stopped crying. I texted my mom telling her I was going to stay at the Lynches and Rydel had extra stuff for me, adding that if she needed me for anything to just call. She responded immediately with a "k". I locked my phone and we were already at Ross's house. I've only ever seen the outside.

We walked inside and nobody was awake so we just went to Ryland and Ross's room. Ryland had a football thing so it was just us.

"I'll give you some clothing so you can go to bed. I'll sleep on the couch--" He began.

"No. Please don't." I assured him. I wanted to be next to somebody tonight.

"Are you sure?" Ross asked.

I nodded my head. He threw me one of his t-shirts so I went in the bathroom to change. I came out and crawled in under the covers. Ross came out a few minutes later with no shirt on. I certainly did not object.

He got in under the covers. I cuddled close to him and fell asleep in his arms.

"Goodnight, Lexi."

"Goodnight, Ross."
