Lexi's POV
After Ross dropped me off, I walked into the kitchen to find my mom standing there.

"Where have you been?" She yelled at me.

"I went for a walk on the beach." I lied. She slapped me across the face.

"Never lie to me again. I know you were out with Ross. I told you you weren't allowed to go out with a boy you just met. And what do you do? I come home from a new job in a new place and the first thing I have to do is worry about where the heck you are. Never again. You are not allowed to see Ross anymore."

"Mom, that's not fair. You don't even know him."

"You don't either! You just met him. He could be a maniac for all you know. He is not allowed in this house and you are not going to hang out with him.

"But mom, you don't underst--"

"No 'buts'. Go to sleep. Now. Or else."

"Do you even care about how I feel?" I yelled back at her. Tears were streaming down my face.

"I said go to bed. Now. And don't wake your sister up."

Ross's POV
A few minutes after I got back home, my phone buzzed. It was Lexi.

Hey, umm... This is going to sound weird, but are you busy?

I think something's wrong. I told my mom I was going out a little bit and ran through the neighbor's yard to get to Lexi's. In case something was going on, I didn't use the front door. I climbed up the side of her house and jumped onto her balcony. I lightly knocked on the door. A few seconds later, a light turned on in her room and she came to the door with tears in her eyes.

I just looked at her for a few seconds, then she came running towards me, engulfing me in a hug. I love being able to hold her. I love the feeling of knowing I can protect her, and that she's safe with me.

"What's wrong?" I said to her, stroking her hair, trying to get her to calm down.

"I'm sorry. I am so sorry." Was all she cried back to me.

"Babe, there's nothing to be sorry for." I said back. She immediately looked up at me at my choice of words... Whoops... Maybe a bit too soon...

I thought she was going to turn me down, but right when the words came off my tongue, she closed her eyes and kissed me. For real this time. I felt sparks flying everywhere. I never wanted it to end. But sadly, it did. She pulled back, and again whispered to me, "I'm so sorry."

"It's okay." I said back, still holding her in my embrace. We sat for a few minutes, just listening to the ocean waves crashing on to the beach. Seconds later, we heard her door knob wiggling.

"You have to go. Now." Lexi said to me. I was so confused.

"Now! Go!" She said again.

"Lexi, open this door. We need to talk." I heard her mom's voice coming from the other side of the door.

"I'll be right there. Hang on, I'm... changing." Lexi said back to her mom.

Before she opened the door, she came running back over to me and whispered,
"Text me tomorrow. Goodnight, Ross."

She kissed me again before she shooed me away for good. Lexi ran back to the other door and opened it for her mom. They started "talking". A little loud for this time of night... I didn't know where else to go, so I started walking back home. I got to my door, opened it, and walked right up to my bedroom, ignoring everyone laughing in the kitchen. I sat on my bed for a minute, thinking...
What just happened?

Lexi's mom is not abusive or anything. Just... bad timing for Lexi.
