"And you're saying he left no evidence, no loose ends, nothing?" I asked my uncle who shook his head.

"Nessuno." (None.) He said and I sighed, running hand over my face.

"Cazzo." I muttered, looking at the papers and files in front of me.

"Did you contact Romero?" I asked him and he nodded.

"I did. Said he'll look through everything." Stuart said and I sat back in my seat as my uncle got up.

"Don't worry il mio ragazzo.(My boy) He sighed and buttoned his coat.

"Take care of yourself." I nodded and he left, with Jake following behind as I lit up a cigarette.

"That's one hell of a girl you got there, where'd you find her?" Stuart asked me and I glanced at him from the corner of my eye, inhaling deep.

"Stopped for coffee at a café. She bumped into me there." I told him, running a hand across my jaw as I remembered our first meeting, a faint smile tugging at my lips.

"Ah, typical cliché story. Boy and girl bump into each other at a café and fall in love over a cup of coffee." He clicked his tongue and chuckled.

"How old is she? Looks young." He asked me.

"21. Still in college, last year." I told him and he nodded.

"Is she the one?" He asked me with big eyes and emphasized 'the one' too much for his own good, and I only stared on ahead, blowing out the smoke and not answering his question when he chuckled.

"Does she know?" He asked me and I knew exactly what he meant.

"No. Not yet." I told him.

"You want a drink?" I asked him and he grinned.

"Another time, cugino. Go to your girl, it's been over an hour." (Cousin) He gestured towards the stairs and I nodded, watching as he left and ut out the cigarette n my hand, drinking a glass of water and gripped the counter with both hands, my knuckles getting white before tossing the glass onto a wall.

"Fuck!" I yelled as the glass shattered into pieces and I ran a hand through my hair before making my way up the stairs slowly and went inside my bedroom, something in me warming at the sight in front of me.

She lay there, like a beautiful angel in my bed, snuggled up under the covers.

I went and sat on the bed, watching her as she slept peacefully, her chest rising with every breath she took.
