A/N this is kind of another filler chapter, but I've always liked the idea of Marlene being Irish and now I'm rewatching Derry girls and decided to make it canon to this fic lol
"You know," Emmeline said to me. "I don't know why Mary is putting up with all of Edgar's shite this long."
Lily and Dorcas nodded in agreement. I just shrugged.
"To be fair though, he is an absolute fucking ride," I responded, taking a drag of my cigarette."Marlene!" Lily laughed. I raised an eyebrow.
"She asked! I don't know what other reason there could be."
"Absolute fucking ride," Emmeline said through raucous laughter. "Sometimes I forget how fucking Derry you are."
I made an offended sound in the back of my throat.
"How dare ye! My Irish identity is very important to me, I'll have ye know."
My outrage was only met with more laughter.
"God even just talking about it her accents getting worse."
I was distracted from my response by the boys approaching us. They joined us on the wall, Sirius squeezing behind me and wrapping his arms around me.
"What's so funny?" James asks.
"Marlene's Irish," Dorcas managed through a wheeze.
"Yes," Remus said, sounding confused.
"To be fair mate, that in itself is pretty funny," James told him.
"Ach, ye English prick," I said, flipping James off.
"God Marley, I don't know the last time you called me that."
He put his hand to his chest as though he was recalling a cherished memory.
"I do. We were studying for a muggle studies test about Ireland and you were all like "I can't tell my rebellions from my risings." You could have done if your lot had stopped invading us for five fucking minutes ye English prick."
"How did this conversation make her accent worse?" Peter asked, rubbing his temples.
"If you think this is bad Pete, you should hear her after she spends a few weeks in Derry. I've know her most of my life and I can't understand a word she says," James says.
"You're assholes, you know. In Ireland, you'd all be laid out, I hope you know. There was an English boy once in town who had to go to the girls school because there were concerns they'd beat him up at the boys school. Every time I told me mammy about a boy she'd say "really Marlene, another wee English fella" and I'd have to tell her "you sent me to Hogwarts mammy, they're all wee English fellas."
"Do you have any idea what she just said?" Dorcas asked Lily quietly. Lily shrugged.
"The gist is that the Irish hate us," James explained.
"You'd hate the English too if you were Irish," I said darkly.
"You never told us why your family moved to London, Marlene," Lily said.
"Ach, when all this Voldemort stuff started happening, me ma decided her wains only needed to live through one war, and since we couldn't opt out of that one, she wanted to move us out of the civil war."
The lingering laughter stopped. I had a feeling it would.
"We should go, after graduation," I said, turning to look at Sirius. "All of us. I haven't been back since my parents died, I have friends I'd like to see and I'd like to show ye the place. Don't worry, we won't have to pass the border, the house is still connected to the floo. Although, I might worry about telling my Derry friends I'm marrying a wee English fella."
