Another week or so passed, Steve and I had mostly only seen each other at work because between it and school I had very little time. Nancy and I were both on the school paper this year, she was the editor and I was one of the photographers so on top of homework I was busy with that. But I enjoyed it, I was good at it and it was something that would look good on a college application and maybe even land me a job at the Hawkins Post one day.
It was nearing Christmas Break, I was looking forward to spending the free time with Steve when we weren't working which would be hard since he would still be working all day every day but I picked up extra shifts so that we could be together. The last day before break was to start I was grabbed by pairs of hands and pulled into a classroom. Dustin, Mike and Lucas were smiling wide as Dustin held something wrapped in his hands.
"Merry Christmas!" they all shouted.
"Aw thanks boys, you didn't have to get me anything" I said taking the gift.
"We know, but you deserve it. You're super awesome and stuff" Dustin said.
I pulled on the wrapping paper and carefully opened the gift. Inside was a t-shirt and as I unfolded it I smiled at them. It was a Hellfire Club shirt, I almost teared up.
"Boys, how did you get Eddie to make me a shirt?" I asked.
"It took a bit but he caved. I think he secretly likes you but won't admit it," Mike said.
"Yeah especially since you're dating Steve now," Lucas said.
"Thank you all, and tell Eddie I said thanks as well if you see him over break" I kissed each of their cheeks before putting the shirt in my bag.
They all hugged me smiling and we left the classroom and the school together. Mike and Lucas waved bye as they headed off towards Nancy's car. I looked at Dustin as he headed in the direction of the bus.
"Want a ride Dusty?" I asked before he got far.
"Don't you have work?"
"Yeah but you aren't far out of the way and I don't start for an hour. Come on."
Dustin followed and I took him home, I waved to Mrs. Henderson who was at the door. Then I drove to work, I left my bag in the car as I didn't need anything except my work vest. I put it on while I walked to the door. I walked in and Robin was already talking to Steve. The day went on as did the many that followed it until finally Christmas had come. Both Christmas Eve and Christmas day we had off from work. My dad arrived Christmas morning, it was a surprise to us all except my mom. We spent the morning opening presents and having breakfast. Steve came over for lunch to spend time with us before we were going to his house for dinner with his parents.
I had spent my free time over the first few weeks of December putting together my gift to him, a mixtape and a photo album. There were mostly pictures of the two of us that I had but there were also some of us with the kids or just him with them. The mixtape had music we both liked as well as songs that held emotional meaning to us. Like the songs we danced to at prom and the first time we said 'I love you'. He unwrapped mine as we sat on the couch, my family was off preparing lunch. He smiled as he saw what I had made, he looked at the photos and most of which he had never seen.
"Have I told you lately that you are a great photographer?" he asked.
"I don't think you have, but thank you" I replied.
"I love it, thank you" he kissed me softly then handed me a small box.
I opened it and inside was a pearl pendant necklace. I looked up at him hoping he hadn't spent too much on this. I didn't want him spending the money he had earned over the summer on me too much. He paid for our dates whenever we went out and that was enough for me.
