Chapter 46

Spring Break 1988

Steve was true to his word, once I was all healed up we took me on a vacation away from Hawkins. We decided on renting an RV and just driving, not setting a destination just going where the road led us. I couldn't help but smile as I watched him driving, thinking of how later this year we'd be married. He glanced over at me, took my hand and kissed it.

"Enjoying the view?" he asked.

"Always," I replied.

"Are we there yet?" Robin's voice came from the back.

"No," Steve replied.

"What's going to be for dinner?" Dustin asked.

"You ate like thirty minutes ago," I said.

"Boys are always eating," Max said.

So this trip wasn't just us, it wasn't really going to be alright with our parents if we just left together for a week long trip. So we have our trusty chaperone with us and two kids who claimed they would be bored over break.

"We will reach a campground in another hour and then we'll get food, now sit down and zip it" Steve said.

"You're really sexy when you go all dad mode you know," I told him.

"Oh really now?" He smirked.

"Alright, stop with the grossness. We'll shut up" Dustin said.

"You could have stayed home you know," I pointed out.

"Why, everyone else had plans for the break. The Wheelers, Sinclairs and Byers were all gone. El and Hopper were off for some bonding time. I would have had no one else to hang out with."

"I'm sure you could have figured something out."

I did love him to death as I did all the kids, but messing with them and giving them a hard time every now and again was nice. They were all itching for summer I think, wanting to be done with school. The boys had been bummed because Hellfire was still banned as a school club. So the boys all took turns running and hosting at their houses.

"Say, Steve" Dustin began.

"No. Whatever it is just no" Steve replied.

"You still want six of them?" I asked him.

"Ask me again after the first."

After an hour we arrived at the campground, set ourselves up and the three in the back got out and stretched. Robin and I made some dinner and once everyone was satisfied we just relaxed. The fresh air feeling great, I closed my eyes and laid on my back. A blanket was laid on the ground and I was on it with Max and Robin.

"So what's this about Steve wanting six kids?" Max asked.

"It was a private conversation we had two years ago," I replied.

"Never would have pegged Steve as a family man," Dustin said. "No offense man."

"I've put up with you little shits for a few years, I think I would be a great dad" Steve said.

"I agree," I said, smiling at him.

"Hey so long as I'm auntie Robin you have as many kids as you want," Robin stretched out.

"Wait, are we going to be replaced?" Dustin asked

"More like promoted, you'll be aunts and uncles one day" I reply.

"I can live with that."

We were off again in the morning, the first several hours were fun but as the day continued on the others all grew bored and started complaining. We were definitely in for a fun and interesting week.
