The next morning I was woken up by the phone ringing absurdly early in the morning, sometimes I cursed having a phone in my room because of occasions like this. As I turned over I saw that the sun was barely up, I grabbed the phone and spoke into it.

"King residence," I croaked out.

"Rachel I apologize for calling so early but we've just heard of what happened in Hawkins, please tell me Steven there" Mrs. Harrington's worried voice said.

"Yes ma'am he's here, he's alright. We're a bit banged up but we're alive."

I felt Steve's hand move from my waist to him holding it out to take the phone clearly hearing it was his mother. I told Mrs. Harrington to give me a minute and I would get Steve so she could speak with him then handed the phone to Steve who waited a few minutes to speak so he didn't give away that he was in my room where she most likely assumed I was when I answered.

"Hi mom," Steve said. "I'm alright, luckily nothing serious happened to us and we managed to just get a little banged up. The King's have kindly let me stay with them since it happened, the house is fine too."

I looked across the room and saw that Emma was quietly and slowly getting up out of bed, the phone had woken her up as well. She got some clothes and left the room, I closed my eyes as I listened to Steve speaking to his mom. Sure Steve and I were alive but we weren't exactly one hundred percent okay, well at least I was sure I was not but couldn't speak entirely for Steve, though I had a feeling he too wasn't.

"We're going to the school today where they've turned it into a shelter and donation center, I can call you later and let you know if there's anything you can bring back with you guys to help out" Steve said.

His parents were away on a business trip, his mom always went with his dad whenever he left for business trips. This one they were due to be back for a few more days at least but from the sounds of it at least his mom was planning to come back early. Steve continued to talk to his mom for a few minutes, assuring her that he was okay and was not putting my family out at all by staying here. I got from the bed and decided to head downstairs and began making breakfast for everyone since I was already awake. Emma was in the kitchen pulling things out of the fridge, it seemed we had the same idea so together we began to cook but about ten minutes into doing so the front door opened and closed which caused us to look that way and saw our dad.

"Daddy!" Emma shouted and ran to him.

He hugged her close when she practically jumped into his arms and I walked over. He let go of Emma and pulled me into his arms hugging tightly and whispered to me.

"This was no earthquake was it?" his voice in my ear so Emma couldn't hear it.

I just shook my head, my dad was the only person I have told about the Upside Down and I told him I would always tell him when something involving it was happening again but I couldn't just blurt it out now because Emma was standing right here. So I stuck to just nonverbal communication as I don't think I would be able to keep myself together if I tried speaking. He let go of me and headed up the stairs to find my mom while Emma and I returned to the kitchen.

"My mom is getting on the first flight she can," Steve's voice entered the kitchen.

"Her help is needed," I replied.

Steve helped us finish up cooking and by the time it was all ready my parents and grandparents were all coming into the kitchen. My dad hadn't said a thing about Steve being here, at least not to me. We all sat at the table eating before one by one we went to get ready for the day.

"I want to talk to you both before you leave," my dad said, stopping me and Steve in the hall.

"Alright, we'll meet you outside?" I replied knowing what it was he wanted to talk about.
