"How did swim practice go Emma?" my mom asked during dinner.

"Good, Steve said I have a good chance of being on the team next year" Emma replied.

"Wait, what?"

"Steve is the new coach, I didn't know until today."

"Don't expect him to just let you on the team because you know him."

"I don't, I wouldn't want him to anyway. I want to get on the team because I'm good, not because my sister is sleeping with the coach."

I choked on my food, my nana dropped her fork and my parents sat wide-eyed. Everyone was looking at Emma, no longer an innocent child apparently. I was turning red with embarrassment because as far as I knew the only person in the house who knew that Steve and I were having sex was my mom. Now my entire family knew it and I just wanted to hide.

"Can I leave?" I asked.

"No, you both have some explaining to do," my dad said.

Not how I wanted the night to go but I get the feeling I won't be getting out to see Steve all that much anymore. Dinner was finished in silence, Emma explained afterward that she wasn't a small child. She knew what sex was, knew about Steve's high school reputation and just assumed that Steve and I had sex. I had to either deny it and make my little sister look bad or be truthful and possibly face a lecture. I did the latter of course, I got a small lecture and then questioned on if we were being safe. When we went up to our room that night Emma apologized about saying anything, she didn't realize what a big deal it was going to be. I forgave her but was still mortified about the whole event.

By the next week finals grades were out, I passed all classes as did everyone I knew. Graduation was set for the end of June. When the date went out we all felt sad, Eddie wasn't going to be with us. Robin, Nancy, and myself all wanted to do something that day to remember him. To make him a part of the day, Dustin got permission from the other boys in Hellfire for us to wear their club logo in some way on graduation day. We decided on making bandanas to wear on our wrists, the remaining members of the club would all wear their shirts both those that are graduating and those not. Nancy, Robin and I were working on the bandanas at my house.

"Is it too late to make two more?" Steve's voice entered my room.

He and Jonathan were standing in the doorway, all of my family except for Emma were all gone so she must have let the pair into the house. I looked at Steve and smiled softly. He wasn't a fan of Eddie before all this happened, he was once worried that I would leave him for Eddie and he got upset that I had a Hellfire Club t-shirt. But now, the same man was before me asking to wear that logo.

"No it's not," I replied.

Jonathan sat on Emma's bed where Nancy was working, Robin was on the floor and I was at the foot of my bed. Steve came over and kissed the top of my head. It was nice to hear they wanted to remember Eddie with us that day.

"Eddie deserves to be there that day and he will be," Steve said.

"He'll be there through us," Nancy said.

We finished everything up in the next few hours and everyone went home. Steve was the last one out the door, he was taking Robin home first so she waited in his car. I stood on the porch with him.

"I'll see you this weekend, next time we talk I will no longer be a high school student" I said.

"We'll be in the same club, and one step closer to our future" he replied.

"Our future."

We kissed, Robin shouted and then they both left. I waved, went back inside and sighed softly. Thinking of how things could have turned out, what it would have been like if we had cleared Eddie's name and he walked with us. Something we will never get.
