Two months after we told everyone, we were getting asked if we picked out names yet. Or had we started thinking of some choices. We had started thinking of some ideas, we would at night lay together and come up with names.
Robin and Dustin were currently over for dinner, I kept trying to help but Robin insisted I not lift a finger and just be pampered for a damn meal as she put it. So I sat on the couch working on some homework. Steve came in from work just in time for dinner, he had picked up some extra jobs from his boss to make a little extra money before the baby came.
"So, I'm sure you have gotten this a lot but I gotta know if you have thought of names yet" Robin said.
"We have a few possibilities," I reply.
"And?"
"Well if it's a girl, Natalie Rose," Steve said.
"For a boy," I pause and look at Steve who gives a nod "Edward James."
Coming up with a boy's name was the easiest, we wanted to name him after Eddie. He died before his time and was a hero. He wanted to honor him.
"That is so sweet," Robin said.
"I'm sure Mr. Munson would be happy to hear that," Dustin replied.
"When the time comes will you share it with him?" I ask.
"Of course, I would be honored."
Dustin has stayed in contact with Eddie's uncle and I think it's sweet and Dustin tells us all how he is doing and holding up. When dinner was over I started to do dishes and was pulled away.
"Is there something going on I don't know about? Why is everyone trying to make me not do any work?"
"Because Rachel, you have been taking great care of us all these years. Feeding us and cleaning up, letting Robin and I crash here. We want to pay that back," Dustin said.
"That's sweet of you Dustin, thank you both" I reply.
"Can I get you anything babe?" Steve asked.
"A back rub would be nice."
Steve gives me a great back rub while Dustin and Robin clean up, when it was done we all watched a movie together. Well mostly, I was told the next morning that I had fallen asleep half-way through.
More time went by, we spent the weekends working on the baby's room. Painted it, put furniture in. Everything that we were given at the baby shower. Our moms came out to California to throw me a baby shower. Friends and family were all invited and came to it. So Robin and Steve were building and setting the furniture up while I organized the drawers. There was a twin bed in the nursery, seeing as the baby would be in mine and Steve's room for the first few months we figured it wouldn't hurt to keep the nursery as the guest room as well.
"Uh Steve, I don't think that picture is straight," Robin said.
"What? Yeah it is" he stated.
"No, it's too far down on the left."
"She's right," I said from the door.
Steve put his hands on his hips and glared at us, two against one. He knew no matter what he tried to say he would lose. So he backed up, looked at it and sighed. Seeing we were correct. I kissed him on the cheek once he fixed it.
"It's okay dear, there was only one" I said.
Steve looked at me and noticed I had my camera bag in hand and my shoes on. He cocked his head to the side and raised his eyebrow.
"Where are you going?" he asked.
"To do a class assignment."
"You should take Robin."
