Chapter- 34 First Attempt

Now fully decked out in her costume, she asked Hawks to fly her to the highest building he could. She couldn't even feel how cool it was to be flown around because she was so focused. Unlike with Bakugo, she had no desire to koala the red bird as she had Bakugo when he whisked her away to his parents' home. 

Thus she simply grunted her thanks and proceeded to starfish on top of the water tower. 

"I'm so curious. What are you doing baby bird?"

"Soaking up the sun."

"Sexy, but...why?"

"Because I need every single ounce of my strength to make this work."

"Hmmm, and what are we doing again?" Hawks asked as he flew slow circles around her Patrick the Star impersonation pose. 

"In an hour or two once I'm charged up the best I can, I need you to bring that man to the rooftop."

"The bandage man? The one missing the foot and intentionally being sedated because he's in mind-shattering pain? You want me to move him? Logistics aside, I'm going to need to know why."

Lore met Hawks's golden orbs. "Because I think there is a chance I can nullify if not regrow anything affected by Tomura Shigaraki."

Hawks stopped flying. "Birdie...that's a massive undertaking. Why would you-"

"Dabi, the fire user," she waved him away like he was a speck of dust, "isn't hard for me to heal. Burns are nothing more than flesh, bones, circulation, and nerve repair. Burnt areas are still salvageable, but I read those files. I know Shigaraki has enhanced his quirk recently to where he no longer has to directly touch someone for his power to work. He can decay things that are touching what he's touching."

"Precisely why our casualties are so high."

"That man only lost a foot because he was a step inside a building Shigaraki decayed. His quirk is still in effect on that man's foot, and we both know it will slowly consume him until he's nothing but dust. It may be days, months, or even years if he's lucky, but he will die a miserable painful death."

Hawks landed beside her and knelt down. He wasn't sure what to do with that information she just told him, so he thought out loud, "If you can nullify Shigaraki's quirk's effects, that's the cauterization we need to stop our bleeding losses. You don't even need to regrow limbs."

Fire so much like Endeavor's licked across her intense gaze. 

"You don't understand Hawks. I can absorb people's power. Moon, it's an aura wrapped around my skin. If I can soak up his power, and use it as much own to feed sun, I can regrow flesh without sapping my own strength."

"That's a huge if, little bird."

"Which is why I'm going to need a lot of Shigaraki-affected clients."

"Ohhhhh no babybird. I'm not telling Sleepy Head 1 nor 2 about changing your route so that you can go closer to the front lines. We agreed this mission was perimeter only." When she looked ready to bite his head off, he smoothly cut in, "Finish this mission. Write your report and present your case to Shoto Todoroki. Ground Zero will not be pleased either if we whisk you away when this is supposed to be a simple mission."

Lore's entire disposition changed when he mentioned Bakugo. Good. That was the key to diffusing her if he needed to reroute her again. 

She took another very deep breath. "Okay, I hear you. I'm sorry. I was being selfish, and I didn't think that all the way through."

Hawks frowned, "You're dealing with this much too well. I thought you'd at least throw a hissy fit."

She tossed her head back giving him a rare glimpse of dimples he didn't even know she had. "You look at my adoptive family and the man I'm in love with, and tell me I wouldn't need a level head to thrive alongside them!" She got to her feet, threw her arms away from her body, and sighed brightly. "Okay. I will work with what I got on this mission and learn as much as I can!"
