"Lan Zhan! You kept the bunnies!" Wei Ying exclaimed excitedly. The animals hopped away in fright. Lan Wangji did not mind.
"Mn," he replied, not revealing anything.
Wei Ying turned back to him and there was a mischievous glint in his eyes. He teased: "But Lan Zhan, are pets not prohibited in the Cloud Recesses? Are you perhaps breaking the rules? Am I such a bad influence on you?"
"Wei Ying is not a bad influence," Lan Wangji was quick to correct him.
Wei Ying skipped over the reminder as if he had never been made and continued in his questioning: "How come you were allowed to keep them? Or are you going behind everyone's backs?"
"They live here freely, I do not own them."
That was only half of the truth. Lan Wangji had trained them to remain in this one clearing and made sure they always had plenty of food and did not want to run away.
"Oh, I see..." Wei Ying was not done with the teasing.
Lan Wangji's ears became pink. "Brother allowed it. He understands."
Indeed, Lan Xichen did understand.
The bunnies were a gift from Wei Ying. How could he ever let them go?
